I didn't go to prom. When I was a sophomore, in 99, I almost went. I ended up not going, though, because I decided I didn't really want to date that guy anymore.
When I was a junior I didn't go because there was a concert the same night that I wanted to go to instead. I don't regret it for a minute. I had backstage passes and they were my favorite band at the time.
When I was a senior I didn't go because my boyfriend's prom was the same night. We decided just to hang out and watch movies and stuff instead of choosing one or the other to go to. It was a lot cheaper and it was fun just to hang out instead.

I went to three proms. One in 1994, and 2 in 1995. My junior prom in 1994 I wore a short, white, off the shoulder dress. In 1995 I wore two different short black dresses, one custom made and one borrowed from a friend that she wore the prior year. Boy, that seems so long ago now! And back then the styles were short dresses, now adays they are long ones. Strange to think back to then, and look at where I am now. You have certainly brought up some memories with this topic!

I did not go to my high school prom. I was hanging out with a group of people who shunned those types of events, and I really do not miss not going today. I think it's a nice thing but it has been way too over-hyped up - why spend hundreds of dollars for a young girl to go to the prom. Sure it may be a special night and all, but I think the schools could come up with a more sane and less costly senior event.
There are so many girls whose families cannot afford the big expense that goes with attending the prom. Maybe if I had been one to go to my own, then I'd feel differently.
