So many response with different words to describe but the main idea is depend on the applications we use.

Generally, a computer hangs because of (1) hardware malfunction due to overusage, deffective, sometimes overheating, misconfigured or inappropriate driver,(2) Operating System/Application problems as malwares commonly worms, adwares and spywares, improper installation/configuration and non-updated software/OS components and (3) insufficient resources- this happens when CPU, memory or video resources can not provide the needs of running applications.

Yes. I have faced this problem many times in past. It used to be in my earlier desktop PC that I was using with Windows98 as the operating system. But ever since I got my Dell notebook with Windows XP on it, I seldomly have faced this problem of hanging up! This problem is caused due to asousal of a situation called "Deadlock" in computers. It generally happens when we start too many appliactions. The Computer processor runs various processes using different resources. When a process wants a resource but that resource is being used by some other process, then such a situation calles Deadlock comes into play and the user sees his computer hungup!!

Your pc can hang for many reasons: 1.If ram is lesser than required by your applications and in that situation you access another application. 2.some corrupt software may also hang your pc. 3.Application that require much of the system resources can also hang your pc. 4.some virus and worms also can slow down computing speed resulting an computer hang.

i have noted out that windows hang up when we perform a large number of functions at a time simultaneously and do not give proper required time to the p.c for its processing.another reason is that when corrupted games are played on p.c that are not recommended on it, windows hang up
