Is it legal or not?

I paid for a membership to legally download music. My son informed me that as long as I don't share the songs it's okay. It came to mind that the other people I am downloading from are sharing! I have emailed the company repeatedly asking this question, but no answer. So am I legally downloading because I paid for the membership or did I waste my money?

peer2peer sites aren't illegal since the people who are putting it up aren't getting paid for the shairing. from what i know. i download through bitorrent. i know on some ways its looked down upon, but not illegal in any way.
