why in india [south] students are not encouraged to take chemical engineering?

I am doing chemical engg... in one of jntu affialated colleges.most of friends opted for other branches like EC,COMPUTERS, MECH..,IT but not chem..when i asked they say it's difficult , some say chem.. engg...has very less openings..but till now i haven't faced any difficulty? as assumed
