What are the stars?

Hi, I'm new around here :) After poking around a bit, I've noticed that a lot of people have stars by their names. These stars have numbers, and different colors. I was wondering what those stars mean.

Welcome to Mylot. Right now you have a 11 beside your name. This means you have responded to 11 posts. Once you get that to 100, you will receive a star. The number in your star is your popularity. To maintain a high number, and keep it there, you need to be sure to post discussions and responses that are of good quality. Don't be rude or offensive becasue once you get that star, people are able to rate you. If you get rated negative too many times, you number in the star will go down.
