I am a bit sad tonight. my throat hurts very much. I think i need antibiotics. problem is I am already housebound from an other illness and cannot go to the emergency room. No doctor will come and see me and write a perscription - they do not do housecalls where I live. Ice cream does not help, tea does not help, grapes does not help. Any ideas as to what might help? At this point I can hardly swallow at all. If you cannot give me an advice, please feel a little bit sorry for me - sometimes that may help a bit. Thank you in advance!

i'm sorry you feel that way.. maybe you could try warm water with some salt.. thats a pretty common solution here for sore throat when medicine is not available.

you're very much welcome. glad to be of service. c",) oh, if you don't feel like drinking water with salt, you can actually just gargle with it. it would give pretty much the same effect to ease your throat. c",)

That sounds like a good idea. Do you think warm vegetable stock with salt will do the trick?

I am so sorry to hear you are ill as well. Hope it will pass soon. Thank you for the sympathy and advice! I am drinking salty water, bujons, and green tea. It seems to help a bit. The warm water with salt actually relives the pain for a while - it is not at all hard to drink either. I thought it would taste horrible, but it doesn't. I'll try a boiled egg tomorrow morning.

Sorry to hear that you have the sore thorat. I have two suggestion in solving sore throat. Firstly, use warm water to gargle your mouth, you can do it before having meal. You will feel better if you keep doing it for few days. Another method that I used is used by the traditional chinese people. But you need few months to prepare it which may cannot solve your problem now. You can marinated some kumquat(kind of mandarin orange) in salt water of high concentration for few months, then you can use them for cure sore throat, you can take one or two marinated kumquay and the nadd hot water to it, drink it straight away and eat the kumquts asw well. It is useful as my mum is a chinese, she knows those traditional things..lol. Hope you will recover soon.

Have you tried gurgling with salt and water? Salt will help to kill the germs in your throat. Make sure that you have a scarf or something wrapped around your neck the whole time. Keep drinking a lot of warm tea or warm water with some lemong juice and honey or hoeny with warm milk... but I think you should somehow get some medicine...

I know what you are going through. I'm battling bronchitis and sinus problems AGAIN. I don't know if I'm developing allergies or what, but the problem is very annoying, and I'm tired of sneezing and coughing up wads of crud. I am on penecilin for it (oh that reminds me, got to take one more before bed time!) and I hope we both get better real soon.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention something. When I had a problem with my throat, a friend of mine who is a medical doctor told me not to gargle with salt water, because that will just irritate the problem. He told me to gargle with ICE COLD water, to ease the swelling in my throat, and dull the pain. That made me feel better. I've been drinking a lot of water.
