Do you remember when
You had to go home because the street light came on
The play ground was the entire town.
every kid in town from 6-16 played kick the can after supper
Catching tad poles in the spring
You learned to ride a bike on your brothers bike, because you wanted to have a boys bike so you could give your best friend a ride on the bar.
In the winter you went skating on a home made ice rink the adults made for all the kids.
In school you got the strap, for talking back, and then went home and got a spanking as well.
In grade one you were like all the other kids you didn't go to kindergarten because it hadn't been thought of.
In grade two you learned all about math and had to start to learn the times tables.
That you didn't dare misbehave as you parents knew everybody, and it generally beat you home, so you mom was waiting at the door with that look in her eye.And they didn't even have phones in homes in those days.
I remember all this and look at it as some of the best times in my life. I feel so sorry for kids because they have to be protected from all sorts of scum. And the worst part is no kids do not have a clue on how to inter act with other kids, To bad the parents choose to shield the child rather than make the laws against the predators and molesters,a death sentence, like it once was. The judge might not have handed down a death sentence, but if they went to jail, the other would kill them, now they are all in segregated custody, and then sent back out to the unsuspecting public, because it might infringe on their rights, Sorry you lost any rights when you started to molest children.

What fond memories this discussion brings back.
I remember all thoes things (except the Ice skating, a little hot in Texas for that) and they are also some of my fondest memories.
I completely agree with you that it is such a same that children today can not safely enjoy so many things that we did.
I really feel sick when I think how dangerous it is today to even let the children out of our sight.
I remember playing down on the creek banks in the summer and in the woods when I was young. I could stay down there for hours by myself and no one thought anything about it.
Now I would panic with fear of what might happen to them if my grandchildren did this.
Yes, the laws aganist these child predators need to be strengthened and they need to be where they could NEVER hurt a child again. You are so right, they lost their rights when they decided to harm a child.

well I always lived in a big city, and I do remember playing ball in the street, because we didn't have a playground in the slums.
As far back as I can remember we always had a phone and it wasn't a party line.
I remember tv but it was black and white.
and my grandmother always played hank snow and hank williams records
