Problem with the lift?

A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. Can you explain why?

what a nice joke!!!I confess I had to look at the solution because I cannot solve it...maybe it is because my mind is a bit too heavy..i've got a terrible headache..I have the fever...however this made me smile...thank you ..it is very funny...but why he could reach the apartment on rainy days? ops maybe I am too silly tonight or can't concentrate on anything

Because f it is raining he has his umbrella so he can reach the top buttons but without it, him being a midget he cannot reach the button to his floor

A nice joke!!! I have to say that I wouldn't have guessed if I did not read the answer in the first post...
I would have gone with he wants to exercise but that still would have not answered the rainy day thingy -
