I was just wondering how many people actually have to pay child support? My x-husband was not ordered to pay child support in our divorce and I was told that the only way I can get child support from him is to hire a lawyer and take him back to court and seeing as I have 2 children to support I do not have the money to pay a lawyer to go back to court anyone have any advise?

why don't u just look up for in ur phonebook for a low income legal fees. they help u do everything. i don't know if u need a lawyer, but here in california, we don't need one. just fill out our own paperwork, and set up court dates. good luck.

In my state, you don't have to have a lawyer to request child support. You simply have to fill out a few forms, they do an income comparison, and then they garnish the wages if you know where your ex works. We can look up all our info on the internet. Best of luck to you, keep searching and I hope you find the answer.

Your local federal courthouse should have a free legal advise that can see you that same day. Just be prepared to wait all day. You will need a packet of paperwork that they will assist you in filling out or you can fill it out yourself it's pretty self explanatory. You don't need to have an attorney to represent you for child support. You just file the paperwork and they give you a court date, you have to have the other party served and then go to your court date. The judge is going to grant child support based on a few facts. Such as custody/visitation income on both of you and set an amount, you should even be able to request that it be taken straight from his check if your worried that he won't send it in timely. Good luck. Hope this helps! :)

I get child support and it was court ordered. I went to the local division of child support enforcement. Each state has one of these offices though the actual title may be a bit different. Don't go to anyone one else such as a lawyer as they will charge. There are also places on the net that will go after child support for you and then take a percentage out of any money they recover. You don't want that either. I would suggest looking up in the phone book your local division of child support enforcement. If you are unable to find a phone number, then call your local social services/health and human resources office (or even your local WIC office) for a phone number for child support. DCSE (division of child support enforcement) will get a child support order established, get your ex to provide insurance (if appropriate), and you can have it taken directly out of his check and directly deposited to your bank account (which is the prefered way). They will also help you to establish custody if you haven't already though you could do that on your own at no cost. DCSE does NOT charge you anything. Good luck hun...if you need any advice or even just someone to talk to who has been there done that, feel free to contact me directly :-)
