u must be ready to face anything which comes before u.
u must not depend upon the teachers,as we did in our
in schoolsdays.we have to be different from others.success in life comes only by hard work.we have to make yourself
comfortable in the place where we are.and so try to be independent and u can surely wi the race.we have to take efforts to upgrade our knowledege in any way inorder face

Hi! First of all, welcome to myLot! As to your discussion, there is indeed a problem in the educational system when suddenly there is a shift from 'spoonfeeding' to 'independent studies'. Students usually get the shock of their lives because it's really difficult to adjust. I have experienced that too when I went to the university the first time. I was used to being told what to do when I was in high school, then I turned clueless during most days when I was in the university. There should be some sort of research-based training that should be introduced as early as first year of highschool in order to make a smooth transition. Since the problem is there right now, I can only advise you to get along with your student peers for study group or homework group. Also, since it seems that you like the net, you can also train yourself to be independent by researching your school stuff without being told to do so. Good luck!

I completely understand what you mean.. however.. you should think for the future... after you graduate... WHO is going to tell you what to do?? do you want to become a leader or a follower... if you want to become a leader..start doing things on your own like... if there is a subject that really interest you... dont stop the research at the end of the class.. go to the library or back home and keep searching and gaining knowledge on it... Proffessors at Universities or Colleges wont tell you what to do.. they'll tell you some of the things you should know and do... but they'll never tell you what to do...You can always seek for advice with the proffessor.. get to know them... see and find out what are their opinions on different subject... just as a grown-up discussions.. it will really help you... transition is hard.. bbut once you get the hang of it.. you'll see.. its ten times better....

in university,i think it nessessary to set apart certain hours oneday on your campus activity.the most crucial thing is to improve your study efficiency in the class,to take it serious what the teacher repeat or write down or the PPT shows

in a university, the atmosphere is very different compared to high school. the professors in college can do whatever they like and you can't blame them for doing such things like don't attending the class and giving a pop quiz for everybody. in college you are not to be pampered like the typical high school student for giving a mouthful feeding on what is the topic for the next day, what page will you find the answers to the homework and all that stuff. you have to be very creative and start working as a mature person dude! better think of it.

Hello Songsing! This is my first response to you. As you are an University student, I think you may be at your graduation / post-graduation level. At this level since the students are more matured in their thoughts and decissions regarding study activities, so also a kid-like immotional attachment form teachers is not at all possible. Also teachers deal students more or less at this level of study as gentlemen and themselves as guides. So more things are to be handled and organised at this stage very independently that is also a hidden part of study at this level!
For this, supporting factors are libraries, course materials, text books, reference books, guide books, tutorial classes, seminars and above all extensive, thourough and broad study of your chapters in syllabus. Your syllbus and text books are your objects of task. Rest every thing including teachers are supports only. So do everything yourself timely with these supports and that will be the best help you can plan and provide to you in the most effective way! Wish you all success. Thanks.

You have to train your mind for it. Start with a week where you try different techniques everyday and see which helps you more and start. You can also take help with friends and discuss with them how do they do it. I guess it will be fun because you will have bundles of knowledge to learn from, first step will be hard but you gotta stop thinking about the fear which I assume is also involved.

i'm a university student also. well, i think you have to shift the focus to the term "interest". why interest? well, the more you grow the more you are exposed to various types of knowledge and wisdom. So the first thing i need to ask you is that "do you like what you are currently pursuing / studying?"
interest is the the key generator of passion. You will not do well if you do not like something. It is just like if you don't like a girl / boy, you will definitely not going out with her / him. If you like something, you will definitely keep on trying until you succeed and that ,my friend is passion. You will not have passion if you do not have interest. So, you should start solving the single main issue here instead of getting yourself into more confusion by focusing on different study technique. that is to search for your interests.
let me share my experience with you. i never get my intended course during my 1st year in university, but i didn't giving up pursuing my dream, instead i understand clearly the difference between "study" and "obtaining knowledge and wisdom". Try to figure out this line:
"Studying is one of the ways of obtaining knowledge and wisdom. Gaining knowledge and wisdom, however doesn't required one to study."
so you can see i wasn't taking something i'm interested in, therefore i go out exploring more alternatives. the more you are exposed to the outer world the more you know yourself better. i join societies and clubs, organizing activities, have brainstorming and sharing session with peers and seniors. it is amazing to see how myself grow through the 5 year transition. i think you can do better than me.
you could try the following method if you are unsure of what you really want into 2 columns side by side:
1. write down things you that you like and dislike.
2. write down things you are comfortable with and things you are not.
3. write down things you can deal confidently and things you can't.
4. write your own diary or something similar at least weekly, to record weekly changes happening to you. you will not notice the change until u have a few months of record, then you can easily scroll through your records detecting all changes technically, spiritually and emotionally.
When you have completed all the above steps, you can determine your interest at 80% confidence level. after this you can start your own planning on achieving your goals, dreams through your interests.
you may ask, what if the thing i'm doing now is totally not my interest or i doing something because of somebody. no worries, you can easily overcome this by finding positive stuff in your interest that would support the current things you are do. this will ensure you have enough fuel to continue your journey until you have really found a better solution.
lastly i would like to ask you to relax. do not panic for the sense of panic and frustration will only cloud your vision and clog your mind. another equally important thing is that never be afraid of failures. The more failure you have the more experience and knowledge you will gain.
remember, studying is just a minor part, a process which leads you to achieving greater heights in life. nobody is perfect so you can make mistakes provided that you have learned from your past. only through mistakes can you grow.
conclusion:
you will only learn something if you really enjoy the process of studying.
high interest = great passion = intense interest = ultimate enjoyment
hope this helps. good luck to you. =)

OK,I am a university student myself now and I am just a freshman just like you do.I think the puzzle is quite normal for it is a colossal change in every aspect, the way teacher teaching, the living condition, the new people around you.It can't be more normal to have a little lost in the first few months,or probably for some adaptable students,a couple of weeks will do.I think you are so troubled by this whole thing is that you haven't tried to learn by yourself and never manage your life all by yourself.I was a broading school student in my high school as well as middle school. And our school is prestigious for its no-pressing policy and a evironment just like university, since which most our schoolmates can adapt to the whole new life fairly quick.I totally understand your felling because I had went through this very hard time just like yours when I was in middle school. What you need to do is to accept the fact that you are actually in this big surrounding and don't consider you are not capable of fixing this wholething.I'm sure you can find out a solution by yourself, since the only best way is your own special way.Be confident in yourself. You can make it!

I think you'd better read some useful books. You must know,as a university sutdent,it's different from the way you have ever been used to.I am also a university student.I also found myself amusing when I came to school .
It's a bad thing to waste too much time to think about the problem.I recommend you read this book"???,?????".When I saw this book,I regred that I didn't it when I in grade 1.It's useful.

many students are puzzled by the question how to spend the time in campus when they enter the college in the first year.it is badly needed to tell them the experience.

Hi, I am a university student too. I think at this stage we do independent enough. In university the learning process is absolutely diffefrent. They do not teach you for 100%. Most of it is by your very own finding. Well, maybe you are pointing on "when lecturer asked you to submit the tutorials and you think that you should not do it"
Well, if you really mean it (if my expectation is right), it is not the truth of independency. Just like an example: a very old man drives a car when it comes to the red traffic light, he must be stipped right? There is no such rules in the world that allows a very old man pass the road decipline!! SO, the same thing goes! :)

Being in a university is different from primary school. I guess you should learn on your own. You shouldn't depend always on what should be told to you what to do...Learn your own way, don't wait for your teacher to tell you this and that. Be attentive and use what you have learned in your own way.

hey song nice observation ,but its the life we live and could not do much abt it. just we should get assured that what we are doing is the correct thing and are not influenced by anyone that's when we will be independent in true sense
