i need advice from all you computer experts please...

i have a gateway 2000 desktop it does not have a serial and it has a bad controller is there any hope for fixing it? are parts any other computers possibly compatible to get out a serial or controller? what are your opinions on this?

You can buy a usb-to-serial adapter or a PCI-card with serial port (and usually a parallel port in one card)

Circuit City and Office Depot sell little packs of adapters to old ports for about $8. If that pack doesn't have an adapter that you need here is a USB to Serial Adapter that should work for you. http://tinyurl.com/2tqj39

What exactly is the problem you are having? If it's a bad serial port you can get a PCI adapter as mentioned, but what device are you using in the serial port? I can't remember the last time I saw any sort of serial device being sold. It might be wiser to replace your serial device with one that uses USB rather than hunt down and buy a PCI card just for the serial port.
