Swearing and Cussing - OK or not?

Is it OK to swear or only only if there are no kids around? Personally I hate swear words (unless I´m furious with someone!) especially around little kids who mimic what they hear. It´s disgusting to hear a small child cursing.

I used to swear some when I was in high school and then some when I was in college, but then during my 3rd year I went home for a visit and was hanging out with some old friends.
We were telling stories all night and a few of them were cussing almost every other sentence and I remember thinking, "They really sound like morons".
The older I got the more I noticed how ignorant it made people look. They could be a HIGHLY intelligent person for all I knew, but the second they'd use a curse to describe something they'd just sound like such white trash.
After that I made a point to get out of the habit of swearing.
I didn't ever want to sound like that.

I guess that I'm rather chameleon-like. I usually speak as I'm spoken to depending on which friends that I'm with. Oh, I try to never even use a mild expletive when there are children around, and I've had some friends actually laugh at me if I let a curse word slip, because they've never heard "that word" come out of my mouth! But I guess that I just automatically mind my p's & q's when the conversation is not that way. Aloha!

I hate when anyone uses swear words especially women. It makes them look less lady-like and more crud. I don't use them unless I am furious and then it slips out and I end up apologizing for using profanity. I can't stand people who swear in front of children then get angry when the kid repeats the word.

It cannot be ok to cuss its just changing the language we speak instead of expressing emotion we use words that dont have any relation to what we are actually trying to say .

I agree with you, it simply displays the persons immaturity. On the odd time I have hurt my self seriously I have noted it is difficult to breath, let alone swear.

I curse when I have absolutely had it and have tried other means to let off steam. If my grandkids are around and I happen to say a colorful word, I apologize and tell them that I shouldn't have said it and would try to be more careful.
Too many times I have hear little children speaking words that are not good. I have heard toddlers learning to speak saying the bad words with more clarity than the good ones. Now that is not a good thing. The parents need to be slapped.
