I THINK THE GENERATION OF YESTER YEARS GOT THE EDGE OVER TODAYS GENERATION.TALK ABOUT THE VALUES AND SIMPLICITY OF LIFE THEN BECAUSE BEFORE,THEIR JUST THINKING OF HOW THEY GONNA EAT AND SURVIVE FROM TODAY TO DAY.IN OTHER WORDS,THEIR MORE CONTENTED IN WHAT THEY AND IF THEY HAVE EXCESS,ITS ONLY A PLUS.WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY IS,IF ONLY MAN SUSTAINED THAT KIND OF MENTALITY I GUESS WE HAVE A BETTER WORLD TO LIVE IN.OF NOT WITHSTANDING THE FACT THAT WE THE BETTER TECHNOLOGY TO BACK-UP US,BUT LOOK WHAT TECHNOLOGY HAS DONE TO ENVIRONMENT AND FOR EVERY DEVELOPMENT THAT MAN HAS DONE,MOTHER EARTH HAS TO SUFFER WHICH IN THE LONG RUN MAN ITSELF WILL FIND NO PLACE TO LIVE INSTEAD,COMPETITION,STRUGGLE SHALL ARISE.I JUST READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT ARTIFICIAL BIOSPHERE WHICH IS A PROJECT BEING DONE BY U.S. BECAUSE THEY ESTIMATED THAT MOTHER EARTH IS AGING FASTER THAN IT SHOULD THANKS TO THE SO callED "TECHNOLOGY".IM NOT AN ANTI TECH PER SE BUT MINDING EVERY ONE THAT BEING CONTENTED AND SIMPLE IS SOMETIMES BETTER THAN BEING GENIUS.LOOK,IF ONLY EINSTEIN DID NOT DEVELOP THAT THEORY OF RELATIVITY,WE NEED NOT TO WORRY ABOUT MASS DESTRUCTION OR ANYTHING.THATS WHY I PICK THE GENERATION OF YESTER YEARS 'CAUSE I WOULD BE SAFER THEN IF EVER.

I agree that contentment makes for happy people, and as an older person, I can see where our society is worse now than it was just a few years ago (10 - 20 years from my perspective).
I do think materialisim is part of the problem, but more than that, is a mindset that says children should have no responsibilities and no concerns and so they grow up not having any, then don't know what to do when "real life" comes along.
There was a time when children were treated badly, yes, and a time when they had to work as hard as adults which endangered their physical developement, but we've gone too far the other way now and it's hurting our society at large.
One of the most difficult things for businesses is finding people who know how or want to work for a salary. We've failed our young people by not teaching them responsibility.
Technology can be wonderful, but it can also be destructive, not only to the earth but to our society. The Amish have the right basic idea when they say that electricity (TVs and so on) detroy home life and relationships. It takes its toll.
All in all, I don't think this generation is as well off. There is more debt than ever. They may "have" things, but they don't own them. They may be able to stay busy playing with technology, but they've lost a sense of community, respect and human interaction.

you've said it all.man has given a lot just for making life much more easier than they think.but as we both perceive it to be,man has lost its character towards humanity, values, responsibilities and even in solving its own problem no matter how simple or complex it may be.thank you for sharing your wonder views.

I think it's always "yesteryear" that seems better. As we progress life becomes simpler(at least, more automated) leaving older people to see how easy kids have it.
I imagine people of the 1500's telling their kids about how hard it was when they were their age.

BTW. really, the caps lock typing is really hard to read. If you take the time to punctuate and such you'll have a much better experience here.
BTW very good topic. I hope it can distract from some of the perversion here and get some responses.
