Update On Swollen Ankle

I would like to thank everyone who replied to my discussion about my ankle. I went to the Dr. yesterday. The Dr. was a little puzzled also since it was just one ankle. She checked for blood clots and there were none WOOHOO! She then did several other test and decided it was edema. She prescribed a diuretic, to eleviate the swelling. Get this, my blood pressure was high. I almost fell off the table when they told me what it was. I have always had the most perfect blood pressure ever. This also concerned her, so she advised I take the diuretic for a week and see if it helped. If not then I will need to go back and let them run other test. As far as the blood pressure goes, she advised I take it often and keep a watch on it, if it continues to stay high then we will address that issue later. She really thinks the diuretic will clear both of them up. I just wanted everyone to know it was not a blood clot and it is not anything real dangerous. Whiteheather39 was right on the diagnosis and so I think she should practice medicine. LOL.

I am so glad you went to the doctor...I was afraid of blood clots...Glad that's not in the picture...also very glad that they are watching your blood pressure issue. The diuretic may well indeed be the magic cure to both situations!!! High blood pressure was a shock to me also when it was discovered...mine had always been right on the money...I had to take some of "my own medicine"..meaning listen to my own advice that I give to customers all day long with their prescriptions..and also "take" my new medicine as directed and make some lifestyle changes...it has worked well so far!!! I'll be sending positive energy your way!!!!

I remember answering your post and asked you to have it checked. I want to say I was happy you did see about it. I suffer from high blood pressure and again listen to the doctor. High blood pressure can be very serious. Not just because of the obvious "heart attack'" but it can affect your kidneys after a period of time. You were lucky to get an early warning sign, please do follow it through. Good Luck and thanks for letting us know. It's always nice to see a follow up reply to the posts concerning health issuses. Take care...

That's very good news ... you must be relieved ... and well done you for going and getting it sorted .. all too often folks just sit on their problems and then wonder why all of a sudden they have a life threatening illness ... In medicine .. 'prevention' is definitely far better than getting a 'cure' ... I'm not a hypochondriac by any means .. but if something isn't working right on my body I always want to know why .. and what I can do to make it better ... I hope the diuretics work nice and quickly ... sounds like you bodies just had a 'blip' and got out of sync somehow .. should all get back to normal once the fluid build up is reduced ..

I missed your discussion about your ankle. I am happy that it wasn't a blood clot. I have a lot of problems with edema caused from heart problems and high blood pressure, but usually both my feet swell. Sometimes one swells more than the other. The diuretic should solve the edema although I hate taking them myself. My blood pressure and heart meds have some diuretic in them I believe so I don't have to take a separatd diuretic very often. Watch that blood pressure. It could be dangerous. If it turns out you have chronic high blood pressure you should invest in a blood pressure cuff. They aren't very expensive and are a big help in staying on top of your blood pressure problems. I hope you have seen an improvement on your ankle by now.

hiwmg2006 I am glad itwas not a blood clot, but hon high blood pressure is serious, I should know.but in your case the diuretic should clear both up really fast. but I am sure if your blood pressure does stay up your doctor will put you on blood pressure medication. but if you have had no problems before this it will probably go down with the diuretic and stay where it normally is.
