Leftover Coffee - Throw it out, or re-heat it?

My sister is one who would never re-heat her leftover coffee. I, on the other hand, if I have coffee left over, will just re-heat it the following morning. I just can't throw out 1/2 pot of coffee. To me, that's money down the drain. How about you? Make more, or re-heat?

I laughed when I read the first post "i'd drink it cold and two days old" - that is so my husband.
Myself, I will reheat all through out a day but I like a fresh pot of coffee in the morning. Around my house we almost never pour any down the drain.

well i dont really know personaly because i despise coffee! i hate the taste but mostly the smell. however, my mother is an avid coffee drinker and she has always thrown hers out and made a new pot rather than to re-heat. if i did drink it i would probably re-heat though lol.

i really have to...if i make a pot in the morning before work, then at least 1/2 pot is left in the evening. I could make just 1/2 pot, but i'd still reheat it rather than waste any money by throwing it out!...lol..thanks hon

When it comes to me and my coffee, I can only really handle having it re-heated only during the same day I had made it. I've had it before when I made it the previous day and personally it didn't taste that good. It lacked something in the flavor that I must have given up when I decided to re-heat it. I was usually one for always having my coffee fresh so in my personal experience re-heating was only something that I'd do if I absolutely had to.
From the day I first enjoyed fresh brewed coffee I've not been big about re-heating it. I find that fresh brewed coffee has a stronger and more interesting flavor than having it re-heated. I don't know, I also like that fresh brewed coffee has a more immediate effect on me being able to stay up later. I feel like the caffeine has a longer lasting effect on me when it comes from a fresh pot of coffee as opposed to cold or warmed up coffee. It's almost like I'm able to absorb it easier when it's made fresh.
Due to my experience I find there is a difference in the overall taste of coffee in general when it's freshly brewed. I find that the taste is stronger and when mixed with sugar and cream yields a more enjoyable mug of coffee. When I have had re-heated coffee that has cream and sugar in it unless it's from the bottom of the pot it has kind of a woody flavor to it. When I have the last mug from the pot and I've warmed it up I've also had the misfortune of having a sediment or a real grainy texture in the coffee. It's almost like certain elements of the coffee have settled to the bottom of the pot and in that last mug I can taste it the most.
I also can't drink coffee without my staple additions of cream and sugar. I have tried it black and it's terrible that way. I find that adding those two flavor enhancements to fresh and re-heated coffee always gives me different tastes. I've found that reheated coffee with these additives has a very weird, almost sharp taste that I care not to drink. It's the reason most likely why I don't drink reheated coffee as much as I had used to.. Though I do occasionally quite honestly.. But in my opinion.. Fresh coffee with those additives seems to have a smoother and sweeter flavor to it which I enjoy so much more.
In conclusion, I have a tendency to try to drink any coffee that is left over.. Or I will even send my other half off with some in the morning when he goes to work.. Sometimes I know my other half in the mornings he has to go to work has to dump out any coffee that is unused because he knows if I were to re-heat it I'd find that it tastes weird. For me these days I find that my coffee in general... It has to be freshly brewed for me now because the taste is so much more appealing. For me a good mug of coffee has to have good flavor to it. I find from my own experience that fresh brewed coffee makes a better tasting mug overall.. I just find that I cannot drink it re-heated as much as I had used to! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

you know, i've never thought about whether reheated coffee has the same caffiene effect as freshly brewed. That is definitely something to look into! i drink my coffee black, but my sister also uses cream in her coffee, maybe she doesn't like reheated for the same reason you don't...i'll have to check into that, too. Very good points in here that i've never considered. Of course, i really do prefer fresh brewed, but like everything else, i just find it too expensive to throw out, as i'm the only one drinking it, and i'm not home enough during the day to drink a whole pot. Thanks for the deep thinking on this one, it's given me some other factors to think about!

I have been putting it in a container in the fridge and using it for iced coffee. The coffee is good and strong and doesn't pale when you add ice to it.

I'm not too fussy, I'll drink leftover coffee. In the morning I'll refrigerate what I didn't drink, and maybe have some iced coffee in the afternoon. Or I'll keep some overnight and heat it up the next morning, or if it's warm weather I'll have iced coffee in the morning.

I make a pot of coffee a day and as soon as it's ready I put it in the fridge to get cold as I prefer it as iced coffee.

i just have to have my coffee hot...if it starts cooling off at all, it's GOT to be re-heated. I've tried iced coffee, and just never gotten used to the taste. Thanks for responding.

Well in my opinion you can always reheat the coffee if you made it in the past couple of hours and it just cooled off a little to much, but anything more than that and I won't drink it. I just don't like how when you stir cream into old coffee and it still stays pretty black. Chances are if the coffee has been reheated it is probably burnt. Icky. But my boyfriend on the other hand does reheat day old coffee. So to each his own.

No, I don't re-heat left over coffee. I just make some ice coffee. I mixed it with fresh milk, vanilla ice cream, some caramel syrup and blend them in a mixer with some crush ice.....

I don't heat up a pot of coffee, i always use an instant method and just make 1 mug up, though i do make up pots of tea sometimes and have some left over, or maybe i might forget about my mug of coffee and accidentally elt it go cold. If so, i would just make a fresh mug of coffee or fresh pot of trea, becuase i think you loosde alot of the flavour when it goes cold. Also, pots of tea will just stew and be over-brewed!

The best thing to do is not make that much coffee. If you are throwing out 1/2 pot of coffee, then probably you are doing too much coffee. I don't like the taste of he-heated coffee, but sometimes that what I drink too. Don't like the idea of throwing food away.

I will drink it cold and two days old. I don't care. If I am going to be kind to myself, I'll heat it up in the microwave.

i admit i don't like coffee getting the least bit cool, but I too will drink leftover anytime. I usually go in the office first thing and just heat up a cup from what was left over the day before to enjoy while a new pot is making. I hate wasting coffee..thanks
