Whilst the score in todays final 6 nations match against Italy, may not sound too flattering, I should like to say how much I have enjoyed the Italian rugby teams contribution to the tournament. Throughout all 5 games, the Italians forwards have been magnificent, supported by the very capable, and wonderful, Troncan at 9.
After sevreal questionable seasons within the six nations, this year, Italy really came of age. The pack were the equals of any other teams, they achieved back-to-back victories over Wales and Scotland, including their first ever away victory in the tournament, and have shown levels of fitness and commitment that have been impressive. Today, they suffered a defeat at the hands of the best backline in 6 nations rugby (O'Gara, D'Arcy, O'Driscoll et al), but managed to score in the dying moments, when Ireland were trying to extend their points lead, and again their forwards were a match for, if not better than, the Irish, whose pack is always competent, and sometimes magnificent.
Please, Italy, with the scandals surrounding your football, at the moment, and despite the great successes of the likes of Valentino Rossi in motoGP & Fisichella in F1, SUPPORT YOUR RUGBY UNION TEAM. They are an improving team, in a sport that is becoming a real worldwide interest, and with the increased support of the Italian people WILL become a real prospect for future 6 nations championships and World Cups. Now is the time, support your team, wear the 'Azuri' with pride!
Congratulations on what has already been achieved, good luck for the future, and ciao for now!
(PS Sorry about the photo, I didn't have one of the team, and this was the only Italianesque photo I had at hand!)

LOL - great photo :-)
I do think that Italy's coming into its own in terms of Rugby is going to be good, not only for Italian Rugby (maybe persuading some youngsters to take up Rugby rather than football, which will be better for them as individuals too, football seeming to be all amateur dramatics, writhing around on the floor as soon as an opposition player comes within 2 feet of them, and mouthing off at referees), but good for Rugby as a worldwide sport. Good on them, I say, and may they continue to go from strength to strength!
