Don't buy the automatic Littermaid kitty litter box!!!

I had a Littermaid a few years ago and it was awesome! It got a workout when we got our fourth cat and eventually died. I went back to the old fashion litter boxes for awhile but then decided to get a new Littermaid. I wanted the Mega for multiple cats. Went to Petsmart and got it and was so excited! From the first night it was nothing but problems. I've never seen upgrades that worked so poorly! It got stuck all the time, dumped litter all over the floor, was twice as noisy, difficult to empty the recepticles, the list goes on and on. I took it out back, cleaned it up, packed it back up and took it back to the store. It has a 30 money back no questions asked. That would be the best part of the litter back. I got my $170.00 back and went back to the old boxes again. Has anybody else had any difficulties with this box?

I don't use it. But, perhaps you can call the company and they can advise the problem, or give you a deal on another one to try. It could have just been a lemon. I use natural pine for my cats. No smell, no litter tracking. They are please as well as I am with it.

I thought I might have gotten a lemon too until I went online and started looking up reviews of it. Most people were having the same problems I had. I guess I should have read them first! I was relying on how well our previous Littermaid performed. I haven't tried the pine. Is it more expensive than regular kitty litter?

Those are the reasons I am afraid of getting one. Plus we cant afford to buy one they are expensive. We have the traditional litter box and what we do to make cleaning it easier is get these litter liners. They are like garbage bags for the litter box. We put it in the litter box then fill it with the litter and when it is used enough we take the bag out with the litter and throw it away. It makes cleanup easier because we dont have to scrape the litter box every time we change it.

I've tried the litter liners but my cats tear right through them with their claws. Makes quite a mess!

I have thought about buying one of those since we have 4 cats but now I think I will stick to the old litter boxes.. thank you for this.

I've never used one, and the only person I ever met that had one absolutely loves it. Hers might be the older model like you first had, though. I always thought they were a good idea.
