Do you prefer sitcoms or standup comedy?

I love to laugh and I love good jokes. I also like innuendo. I love watching a good sitcom, but sometimes I have to admit I find them a little farfetched and silly. When they run truer to real life, I find them great. I also love watching a good comedian. When they can connect their first joke all the way around to their last joke and keep a thread, it's genius. I love to laugh until I can't breathe anymore, and a good standup will do this for me.

I totally agree with you! There is nothing better than a really good laugh!!! I couldn't tell you which I prefer--sitcom or comedian as they both make me laugh. Some sitcoms are better than others as, like you said, run truer to life. That's what makes them so funny! Do you have a favorite? My favorites are the older sitcoms--M*A*S*H, Family Ties, and Facts of Life. Other ones nowadays are pretty funny, also. I don't care for comdedians that get vulgar and swear a lot. That offends me. I have enjoyed the comdedians on the the show "last comic standing" on NBC. They are hilarious!!

It is rare to see a sitcom that is funny from beginning to end these days. I remember the classics, like the first seasons of M*A*S*H.I prefer stand-up.

If you want a sitcom that hasn't chnged its style or voice and remained funny over the years, look no further than Scrubs. I'm highly surprised that it managed to stay on the air this long without changing the comedy style.

I find Scrubs very dry for my taste, but I know some people get into that kind of thing. Compared to MASH it has fewer stand out innuendos and you have to pay more attention. MASH never went more than a few minutes without a good guffaw yet it always maintained the dignity of a bizarre situation.

I like both i guess. I also love to laugh, and the best comedies for me were The Cosby show, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Friends, and Seinfeld. The best stand up comic shows i've seen (on tv or dvd) were Eddie Murphy Raw and Delirious(although he can get very vulgar) Robin Williams live on Broadway ( I almost peed my pants with that one) Bill Cosby himself (really funny, clean humor) If you haven't watched those, then you should! Have a good laugh!

One of my all time favorites is George Carlin and I also used to love David Steinberg. Both used to get me laughing so hard I would hardly breathe.

Classic Disney and all the old classic slapstick like Laurel and Hardy are great laugh getters. I love the Laurel and Hardy routine about parking the car where Oliver keeps saying, "Go ahead, Stan...back up." You can just picture it.

I love a good comedy and while a lot of sit-coms are kind of hookie, there are a few good one's out there. I would have to say that "Two and A Half Men" is one of my current favorites. Sometimes, I will try to catch some of the stand up routines that are featured on HBO and the others. Basically, I think that it is television's job to entertain me! Most of the newscasts these days are too biased. I like to get my news off of the internet.

For sure, reading off the Internet for news makes it alot more straightforward. There are so many platforms on which to get news and written by many people, not like getting it off TV where the reporter and the writer work absolutely together everyday. When writing, it's hard not to put in a bias. I have to say CBS is good for that. They report the news, they are personable, but I don't get the feeling they are biased. Well, folk, that's the news...He's Chevy Chase, and you're not!

Sitcoms vs. stand-up comedy is actaully one of the greatest entertinment debates I've ever heard of. The simple answer is... It all depends on the comedian. Take Jeff Foxworthy for example. His stand-up is still hilarious, even though much of it is recycled redneck or hick jokes; but his sitcom left a lot to be desired. Then throw him as a host on a good gameshow (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) and he shines. Why? Because it is a perfect platform for his stand-up style. Then you've got Jim Carrey. His comedy movies are number one in my book. Anytime I have seen his stand-up, I just didn't laugh at all. It didn't work. Plain and simple. Jerry Seinfeld falls right into this group, also. Great show, not so funny comedian. You have your comedians that just wouldn't work on sitcomes, like Mitch Hedberg or Demitri Martin, though I could see the latter doing a cartoon or sticking to his Daily Show appearences. And you have your comedians that are just not funny, namely Dane Cook. Not a comedian at all!

Sometimes Jeff Foxworthy gets me laughing so hard I can miss the next joke while laughing at the last one. Too funny. Jim Carrey is a genius, literally to be able to do comedy and then switch to drama and be convincing.
