So, it seems I have a cat

Last October, my boyfriend's brother's girlfriend asked if I could watch her cat for two weeks. Two weeks came and went, and she never mentioned taking her cat back. I asked her about it, and she finally told me that the apartment they were looking at had fallen through. They were going to look again in January, when she got her next student loan check. January came and went. She spent a whole lot of money on things that were not a new apartment. They continued to live in the same no-cats-allowed flat, and I continued to cat-sit. I just learned this morning that she and BF's brother have broken up, and she's leaving town. I didn't, btw, hear this directly from her, but from BF's brother. No call about the cat yet. I dont' especially mind, as I enjoy having the cat here. She's very sweet. But, I definitely would ahve appreciated being asked if I wanted a cat.

Personally I would worry about leaving my cat with someone for 2 weeks. I love him more than that and would wonder what bad habits he would pick up at someone else's house. I think it is low of her if it was her original intention to never get it back from you. Why can't people stand behind their words? All she had to say "I'm not allowed to have cats. Will you keep it for me? I don't know when or if I will ever be able to take the cat back. If you want it when I get on my feet I will let you have the cat."

You are right. You should have gotten the info from her directly and she should have asked if you wanted to keep the cat as your own. Think of it this way, at least she left the cat with a responsible person and not just leave it outside to defend itself.

That was a selfish act on her part, to take advantage of your kindness. I guess you now have a pet, so I do hope you love it. Bless your sweet heart.

How totally irresponsible of her! She should have asked if you wanted her cat. I'm glad that you are taking care of the cat. Don't give the cat back to her if she ever asks - she shouldn't be allowed to have a pet.

I can understand that completely. I am glad you are big hearted and don't mind keeping the cat instead of leaving him homeless. You're doing a good thing but I understand.. I hope the saying what goes around comes around comes back to haunt her!
