Being viral in nature would suggest that one would "get it" just by being exposed to "it", such as getting something contagious like a common cold. Viral marketing is the excitement that causes people to stand in line at grand openings to get something free, or the same would cause you to tell someone of your favorite restaurant. In other words, it's the excitement surrounding something that makes you want to tell everyone or to get it for yourself. Yes, you certainly can make money using it or 'from it". If your product is not viral, then that just means you would have to do something more exciting with it or create a need to get people to buy. Viral marketing seems to be very misunderstood.
