Should it be Manditory......

Crash - Bluffton Bus Crash
Canada

As Headline like "Bus wreck killing 4 baseball players hits small campus hard" or 6 killed, 29 injured after bus carrying college baseball team drives off Atlanta highway ramp" flood the news. I keep saying over and over why do buses not have seat belts? Why are we looking over the simple fact that without the life saving seatbelt people are dying when they could be saved by a 2.5cm wide strap across a persons waste? Should seatbelts on all buses be manditory? Please give me your opinios...

It seems to me we are all horrified when we read of another bus accident killing passengers of all ages. But a simple thing like putting in seatbelts would give the passengers a better chance of escaping injury. Here in BC,our insurance company(controlled by our provincial government) has made it mandatory for all passengers to wear seatbelts except buses and emergency vehicles. Why buses? If those that say the seatbelts will cause more injuries than stop them, why do we HAVE to??Logic please??

School Buses transport close to 3 million Canadian Children a da to and from school and we consider these people are precious cargo and would do anything to protect them, except put seat belts in buses. The very thing the use on a daily basis? Doesn't make sense. Every vehicle should have a seat belt, planes have them...so why not buses. I agree there is a lack of common sense when it comes to this and I feel sorry for those families who have lost loved one in bus accidents, so many lives could have been save due to a simple thing called a seat belt.

Children with Seatbelts on Bus - Photo of two children using seatbelts on what apears to be a school bus.
I'm somewhat divided on this issue. First off I think that seatbelt use should be mandatory for all school busses. However, on commerical busses while it would be difficult to make it mandatory I believe that the busses should have the seatbelts and their usage would depend on the passengers.

Perhaps someone should invent a seatbelt with a timing device that would automatically unhitch after an accident. In that way one would not be afraid to use seatbelts.

Put the seat belt in all buses yes and in tour and Commercial busses if the passengers choose to use then so be it, but like air planes explain how to use then in an emergency. In School buses I agree manditory.
