Is there a fee to post things to sell? How do you begin? I know there are hundreds of sources that get paid to answer this, but I just want an overview. Thanks

Its good ask and learn from others experience. We are ebay power seller in India our id id vikasintlcom ...it was good experience before ebay started introducing insertion fees for listings/posts.Still we were concerned with those buyers which are not paying and still giving negative feedbacks and you cant do anything...but overall yes you can make good money..if you know how to pick the right product and where to buy them in wholesale...to sell them at profit on ebay which is a retail market.

Well your husband is right...you should start with what ever you have...and remember ebay charges insertion fees so even if item is not sold..you still end up paying something so there are some other no listing fees type of auctions like bidville.com where you start listing what you have at home..just for experience..and than later you feel confident to buy stuff at wholesale and sell them at retail like ebay or other auction sites. You can also make a site or store like we did http://www.vikasintl.com we are growing day by day

One thing I have noticed about stuff on ebay that is being sold retail, it doesn't seem to go very well. I always see multiple listings for this with no bidders. I would think that if you wanted to do wholesale/retail, you would set up your own website and promote the heck out of it.

I have no idea how to find and sell wholesale stuff. I guess there is really a lot to think about with this venture. Everyone I know just sells stuff they have around the house. It's what my husband wants me to try doing. However, I don't think there is anything here someone would want.

They go to great lengths to explain things when you sign up. But yes, they will charge you for an auction. There is a listing fee that depends on the type of auction you have. If you set a reserve price for example(a minimum price you will accept)they charge you more for the listing. Also, the lower your starting price the lower your initial cost. Once you sell something they get a small percentage of the selling price. There is much more, but it would take a long time to type out. I would suggest joining and trying one item to get the idea.

I'll have to do that sometime when I have the extra money.
