Lately I've been dealing with depression. Not just a little low in my life, but insomnia, lack of interest in everything, etc. I've been diagnosed with actual depression and was supposed to start some medication to help this weekend. Unfortunately the psychiatrist didn't pay attention when I told him what painkillers I was on and prescribed something that doesn't interact well. So for another day or so I have ot keep struggling with it and probably a little longer until the drugs are in my system. Even after treatment with medication, overcoming depression can be difficult. I've come through this once before and it was one of the most difficult things I have done in my life, even more difficult than quitting smoking. Knowing what is ahead is good for preparation but bad with intimidation. What are some little things I can do to help myself or I can ask my loved ones to do to help bolster me through until things are better? Have you ever dealt with someone facing this challenge? Please share. Thanks.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I have been very depressed in the past. I was diagnosed Bipolar so never was on antidepressants. I think I CAN relate to how it feels though. These days I kind of feel like if you can get healthy and happy by exercise or whatever, thats best. Happiness from a pill seems questionable to me somehow. Might last awhile. Not sure of the Chemistry of it. More familiar with the meds I had to take. Find people who care to chat with. My email is kurtbiewald@gmail.com take a nap, eat some good food, a cup of herb tea, a movie, listen to the radio, I think I put NPR on for a year or so once here for you

I am hoping the pills will give me the boost I need to act on my motivation. I have thoughts of pulling up out of it, but I just start to get overwhelmed when I do. Thanks for offering to chat with me. If I have the chance to talk much, I will be happy to do so. Having a 2-yr-old means I have my hands full most of the time and don't get a chance to stop.

I've had to deal with severe depression myself, even being hospitilsed in a special unit for 6 months. I found just being around people like friends, loved ones really helped me. Also keeping active so the thoughts don't collect too much.. i know that it sounds a lot easier said then done but i found it really did help. The medication isn't a quick fix so to speak, but it helps lift your mood just enough so that you can comabt the depression in a helpful way.

Thanks. I'm just trying to find little ways to help lift myself up. I have a 2-yr-old and very limited funds, so going out is hard to do, but I am making progress on getting my house clean enough to have guests over. That is one of my big goals.
