i am always trying to find a good book to read. i am so picky though. if i cant get into the book by the first chapter, i put it down and dont bother with it anymore. i am hoping that i get a great list started here so that i can go and pick up some good reading material. mostly i like non-fictions, but i will read fictions if they have a good and interesting start.

I have a few favorite books but they are all fiction. If you like romantic books "A Walk to Remember" is such a wonderful book, but be sure to have a box of tissues handy. I also really like Dean Koontz, people say he is just like Stephen King but i dont think he is really, he is more of an emotional writer i think and my favorite book of his is "Watchers" its suspenseful, touching, and thoughtful. "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz is also very good.

thanks for your response. i have read a walk to remember and i enjoyed it. then i went and rented the movie. i like to compare the book to the movie. i still havent read "the notebook" but i LOVE the movie. i have heard of dean koontz, but have never read any of his books. i will give it a try. i have only read one book by stephen king, "13 stories" and some of the stories actually gave me the chills. lol. but i only read that book because it wasnt very huge and scary looking, and i wanted to get an idea of his writting style. i was told that "13 stories" isnt like his typical work. it sure was worth reading though. once again, thank you!

I would say that my favorite would be " Brave New World " by Aldous Huxley Fictional, futuristic ... clever and well written ... a forecast of our future ... it has been written a little while ago but it is becoming more and more true ... a must!

I'm sure this has already been said, but my favorite books are The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Harry Potter series. I've read both of these series many times over and am about to start the Harry Potter series again in preperation for the final book and fifth movie, both coming out in a few months. The best thing about the Harry Potter series though, is how it matures over the course of the books. Every book becomes more and more adult themed and oriented, so it forces children to improve their reading skills, which America really needs.

Lori Wick is great! Have you tried books co-written by father/daughter team Gilbert Morris and Lynn Morris? The detective series with the heroine of Dani Ross is SOOO good. Gilbert Morris wrote it by himself and I've yet to read a female writer that could match that series.

I actually love series more than individual books. My favorite are the Foundation Series, Robot Series and LOTR. If you have not read any of these series I would seriously recommend you to go through these series. If you are not in Sci Fi or Fantasy, then you can check out Dan Brown's or Michael Crichton's books. Cheers! Ram

Just lately I have really got into Jodi Picoult books. Both The Pact and My Sister's Keeper were totally riveting and very hard to put down.

Well I really don't have a favorite book. But one that I enjoyed reading a lot was The Westing Game. It was very interesting. Their were also a couple more books I think one was called Deviant Psycho. I'm not quite sure, but I'm pretty sure you can find it if you're looking for a book on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The book is about the guy that actually inspired Thomas Hewitt. For those of you that don't know that is Leather Face. Not exactly inspired but he was the one before Leather Face, a psycho, Ed Gein. It is very interesting and well quite informative. As for me i just enjoy reading books of separate stories like Chicken Soup. Their are many different ones.

I typically stick to one author. Stephen King is my favorite and even some of his books are honestly boring to me. Like you if I'm not caught by the end of the first chapter I will put the book down, except I will might go back to it at a later time in hopes I get a different view of it. I have read so many different books in my lifetime, many I can't remember. I have read the Thorn Birds, which was a really good book. I have read the sequal to Gone With The Wind. I have also read the Tale of Two Cities. I like to read The Notebook if I can only find it. I loved the movie, and I would love to read the book. I'm a speed reader, I started the Thorn Birds on a friday afternoon and finished it by Sunday morning before it came on tv later on that night. I love reading books and then watching it play on on tv or a movie. If you haven't seen the movie Gone with the wind, I know it would be a great book.

I read Middlesex, which won the Pulitzer Prize several years ago. It was definitely an amazing book and I hope one day I can write one as good as that one. Definitely an amazing piece of literature :)
