I seen the diet work for a lot of peoplel. I also believe that the diet is a healthy one. The problem you have seen is that most people can not stick to the diet. A diet just can not be short term. It needs to be a total life change. If you can not do that just try smaller steps and exercise more. I know you can do it.

Well I only tried it for three weeks and then couldn't handle it LOL I lost lots of weight (I think at least 10-15 pounds and it showed too) but I soon piled it back on when I stopped doing the diet plan. It's hard to cut out the carbos especially since bread, rice and potatoes was always part of our food intake. I think the first phase is always the hardest and I just didn't have enough stamina to keep me going. Let me know how you do. I hope it works for you.

well, im still thinking if im going to start it or postpone till later. I heard the South Beach diet uses the same principle of low carb, just dont know exactly where the difference lies. Thanks!

I tried it and did not seem to work for me. The best for me has been to count fats, calories, and carbs. It just depends on the person what you can eat and you have to try to see if it will work for you. I go to curves and they did diet where count your calories and carbs but had two different categories either more carbs or less depending on what worked for you as a person. It is very hard to eat as few of carbs as they want you too.

The Atkins diet is good for weight loss. By cutting out refined and high glycemic carbohydrates, you can lose fat quickly.
The weight gain when you come off the diet is because of going right back to those foods, in the quantity you ate them before.
I have a weight loss clinic, and something I always stress to my patients is, your body is the result of your eating and exercise habits. You'd think this would be common knowledge, but it's not.
How you look today really does come from what you've done.
So, if you lose weight but then go back to your old eating habits, you're going to land up the same way as you are now.
Dieting, in the sense of weight loss, is temporary. But to maintain that lower weight you are going to have to permanently change the way you eat. This doesn't mean no treats ever, but it does mean less treats/desserts/snacks than you're having now.
That's the most important concept I think.

wow, you have a strong willpower to maintain it for 6 months! What type of snacks are allowed? I read that nuts are allowed...but is there anything else? Thanks!!

I was on the atkins diet for over six months. I lost 30 pounds. I have maintained my weight loss for almost 4 years. I am planning on going back to atkins within the next two months so that I can lose another 20 pounds. If you would like to do it and need a partner just let me know. I will be glad to help.

I did it last year and lost a lot of weight and felt ok except it used to upset my stomach a bit because there is a lot of meat etc which I can't always digest properly. It also takes more thinking about and can be more expensive, but it can help in other ways with health benefits as it can stop people becoming diabetic as it reduces the sugar in the blood.

havent tried any kinds of diets such as Atkins' diet etc.... but i still believe that we need to be aware of our health status or physical condition of our body before starting to any kind of diets... consult you doctor first by having some check ups.. if you dont like to consult a doctor, you can ask yourself first... what are kinds of meals you usually eat and not usually eaten? and have an assessment of those kinds of foods...
For example... when i reach the age of 24, my Basal Metabolism Rate decrease (compare to Teenage years wherein BMR is much higher).. the lower the Basal Metabolism rate you have (BMR) the lower the rate or percentage of calories that you can burn inside your body... but i love to eat meat.. since i'm aware that i have a low BMR of course i will minimize my diet of meat...since meat have a lot of calories, then i will shift to fruits and vegetables... i will just eat meats once a week...
NOTE: BASAL METABOLISM RATE SOMETIMES DEPENDS ON YOUR GENES... NOT ALL CASES ARE THE SAME AS ME...

Thanks Neena, from your pictures i agree that you dont have to try any sort of diet for losing weight! I have read that to increase basal metabolic rate, regular exercise is essential....the problem is i tend to be lazy with exercise, im contended with walking which is what my knees can take anyway.
