spare the rod , spoil the child

is this saying still applicable these days. most of the schools in the world banned corporal punishment that is caning. but this line is created and proven,, that some degree of caning has to be administered to discipline a child.. any comment

it says in the bible that a rod is a tool used to guide something or someone with it is to be used as a guide, so why hit? use the rod of god to guide the children in the direction god wanted with out violence, god dose not condone violence he stoped the stoning of the adultris because who there had no sin?
so to me the rod is a tool to use for training our children what direction to go , but to use gods word not with violence.
