I'd like to stand on the humanistic value to answer your question, because religion and God have much to do with human. And it's so simply to say: when a religion appreciates and give honor to human in its holistic dimension, so far it is a true religion. (I underline the phrase "holistic dimention" to include all dimensions related to its being).
Religion is an institutional body, isn't it? What makes it special and unique is the living-faith-of-God inside the people. The word "faith" refers to a mysterium of God rather than a huge ideas about God by which the people undergo their life. The faith must be actual, operative, and give mutual impacts to others. If not, there's something wrong with the faith (not with God). It maybe decline to be ideology, not faith anymore. Is it religion if it has no faith?
Many religions means many paths to the only God. The true path is anypath that leads us actual-ly to the goodness of every human in its holistic dimension.

Dear friend.
I think that question can be answered like this if I may say so: The one religion FOR TODAYs needs is suitable, if it uphelds as a main principle, clearly and explicitly outspoken, that all other religons are from God too. I now talk about the world religions, founded by Zoroaster,Abraham, Moses, Christ, Krishna, Buddha Muhammad, Bab and Bahaullah. All these Figures refer to each other and foresay the next coming One.Only their resperctive followers are confused in this matter.
It follows that the most suitable religion FOR TODAY is likely to be the LATEST of all religions, because previous religions tends indeed to reject "after coming" religions. That is an old sad story
Moreover when you encounter it you should even be a lover of them,of all the previous Manifestations of God,and defend them, speak well about them as you defend and speak well about God.
It must be clearly stated in that " suitable religion" that you can not deny any of those former Figures.
This not new, Christ said to the pharisees, If you had believed in Moses, you would have believed in Me.
Since the days of Jesus, however there has appeared other mManifestations of God. The problem remains, that there are rejections by followers of old Faiths to new ones.
This, the Unity of religions, among other things, will provide the Divine pedagogics, I believe, that can be accepted by huge assemblies and congregations, nations ....the whole world, even. The need is at the door in this global society.
At the European Unions discussions the question of the need of a common basis of ethical, read religious, values has now turned up.
I know that Angela Maerkel went to the Pope concerning this need. They have talked about Christianity as a basic ground of values, to be applied in the Union. I don't yet know how deep they went into deciscion making. I don't believe that they really believe that those two can make descisions in this issue. It is a matter for wide discussions, for a long time, I guess. Because.....
Now, we Europeans are soon going to wellcome Turkey into the Union. The question raises naturally: What would the moslems of Turkey say about the popes talk with Mrs Maerkel.
There will be a lot of arguing forth and back concerning this.
For us in Sweden the question of Faith is mostly so private and also neglected, that we will probably just say, what..who, where, oh... what is going on. Do we need religion at all? But most people in the rest of Europe are more active as believers, promptly adhering to their respective Faiths. There are sections in Christianity too, roman catholics, what would the Irish people say about the Swedes finally opening their mouths to say protestanism! of course.
I'll follow this discussion as an observer.Intriguing it is.
I believe in God and His temple is in my heart, so I have no problems.
Well what do you say-?. The question about an all satisfying, allcovering Faith is just outside around the corner. Don't you think so too.
I'll be glad to hear what you say.

The truth is it is in your heart.
God is always there in your heart.
Just believe that HE is there.
Religions are just guidance
towards attaining self communion
with GOD.
