Need advice on Interior Design

Hi all! My husband and I are planning to construct our own house. We have already talked to some contractors are have agreed on the floor plans. However, we are on a tight budget and that means we cannot afford having the contractors do the finishing touches. I thought we could do the painting of the wall, flooring installation, and other finishing touches ourselves. I have done a lot of surfing on the net and I already have some ideas on what I want. But I would appreciate it very much if you could share some ideas on how I can have a nice and cozy home and yet an inexpensive one. Or what would be the best material to use and where can I get it at a cheaper price. Thanks!
