all my profile lost in a vacuum

by disinstalling a program form my computer, all my personal profile in windows and a big part of the system itself, have disappeared! It took 10 days to get some of the datas back, and to rearrange the computer a bit. I'm sure that many of you have some experiences in pc problems. I've heard of a few cases of people loosing theyr master peapers for example- did you ever experience any trouble with your computer?
