I have always been fascinated with the life of Jack Kerouac and started off with his biography, Angel Headed Hipster, before reading On the Road. I recognized the people he encountered in his life with the characters moving in and out of Sal's life, the main character in On the Road. Now, I know Holden Caulfield of J. D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye cannot be compared with Jack's Sal, but why do you think characters like Sal and Holden are so fascinating with young people? Do you know of people that epitomizes these characters (without them knowing it?)

before my time
I have actually read some of his stuff
I guess he led to the beatniks or something and that led to the hippies
all them folks were brave to challenge the conformity of the 50s , so we can be mostly free now
I kinda thought my own hitchhiking and bumming experiences were more fun and less agsty then Jack's
diferent times I guess
