My son loves to try to sneak toys into bed to play with instead of sleeping. He usually takes books or transformers, but lately he had been sneaking his Nintendo DS. The books and toys are not so bad becasue he can't do much with them in the dark, but the DS is definitely not allowed becasue he can still play it in the dark. Whenever I catch him with it I take it away for a few days. He hasn't done it for a few weeks now.

My daughter kind of went through this when she was like 4 or 5. I actually had to go as far as making sure her favorite toys were put away in the closet and ot left out in her room where she could get at them really easily.

When I was little I used to hide books in bed, and read them. It was much harder to find a book under a pillow than a toy. LOL I was a really smart kid. I even managed to hide a little tiny flashlight in there too, and no one ever found it.

My 5 year old grandson sleeps with toys every night. If you take them out of the bed, he just waits until you are gone and then he will get up and get them again so we have found that it isn't worth fighting with him to get the toys out of his bed when we put him to bed for the night. He no longer stays up at night and plays with them because he's just too tired usually. He won't take naps and he won't rest during the day, no matter how tired he is or how early he got up so that's probably why he sleeps so well at night! LOL. He doesn't sleep with as many toys as he used to. When he was younger, he had to have every stuffed animal that he had in the bed with him, especially his stuffed elephants. There's a show called Maisy who is a cartoon mouse and one of her friends is an elephant named Eddie so all my 5 year old grandson's elephants were all named Eddie and he HAD to sleep with them every night. He must have had ten stuffed elephants or more. He's outgrown that a little bit thank goodness.

My daughter did not do this when she was young like your daughter. When Heather was about six she found a love of books. I would not let her take them to bed because I was afraid of her hurting herself. I found her one night under the blanket reading a book at about 11:00 one night. After that I would search for the books and flash light every night. I told her the books would be there in the morning. Now that she is sixteen I have to tell her that she cannot sleep with her headphones on. She loves to fall a sleep to music but I am worried she will choke herself with the cord.

LOL!!! That is so cute! My kids don't take toys, but a library of books! My older daughter (6) takes about 30 books with her. She "reads" about 5 or so before she falls asleep. My youngest (2) is learning the same habit. I suppose this is much better than screaming all night. LOL! My oldest son (8) takes the cat to bed and reads to it. Silly cat, actually waits for him. I guess it's because it's the only time he's allowed on thepillow.

I don't think you should take toys away from your kids in bed unless they are ones with say wheels and strings where they can hurt or strangle. I always slept with stuffed toys. I don't think it's wrong for a child to want to play in bed. I let my kids do it. I used to read at all hours of the night too once I was old enough to do so. I think it is wrong to disallow her toys to play with at bedtime.

well my niece have not done this and if it is bed time... she knows what to do and will keep her toys away. if it is bed time.. she will sleep and will try to if she is not yet asleep. she knows she will not be able to play the next day if she will not sleep right on time.

My kids all have Captain's Beds,so there's a space between the mattress and the wooden bottom, you wouldn't believe the toys we'd pull out of there at the end of the day.....

I know I used to do this as a kid, my parents pretended not to notice most of the time, unless I was being obvious. I have pretended not to notice my daughter taking books to bed (she can't read yet), but no toys yet.

My kids still too young for that, but I remember when I was a kid, like 6 or 7, I use to hide books in my bed right before I was put down for a nap so that I could read them when my mom or babysitter shut the door to my bedroom.

you no my kids used to do that so what I did was allowed them to take one toy or book and stick under the pillow I told them that they could keep it as long as they didn't play with it but if they took it out I would give them one warning and stick it back under their pillow but if they took it out again I would take it. That solved my delima of sneeking toys. claire

This brings back nostalgic memories. When i was a kid i can clearly remember I have this behaviour of being a bit selfish, whenever i was given new things. I tucked them under my pillow or put them under my blanket. I also keep a zealous guard on them. This behaviour thoughis very prevalent on my yougest daughter. At one point in time, when her elder sister was teasin that her toys will be given to somebody else complaining that as she seems oblivious in keeping her toys in the cabinet - it is virtually strewn all over the room. My youngest gathered them all up & made a mountain pile of them on her bed. She would show angry emotions whenever you try to go near her toys. With that event we never again teased her, on her toys nor on any of her things.

LOL I dont' have any kids, but I remember when I was a kid I would sleep a whole BUNCH of toys in my bed..my favorite dolls, books, stuffed animals. I just had them on my bed with me and slept with them. I would play with them a little before sleep, but mostly I think I just liked them being there with me. I was also one with the book and the flashlight reading in my bed after mom made me turn out the lights. :O)
