How important is it to you to carry on your family line?

Though I'm fairly young, I think I've more or less decided that I don't want to have children, for reasons that aren't necessarily relevant to this discussion.
What I really want to talk about is the idea of familial succession. I'm the last male in my family with my father's last name. Essentially, if I don't have children, my father's surname ends. I remember being a child and being told by my grandmother that it was important that I marry and have children so that I can continue the family line, but as I've grown up, I've decided that it isn't really important to me. So I'm curious. How important is it to my fellow myLotters to be able to continue their family names? Would you have children solely for the purpose of continuing your father's name?

U see in ancient times it was necessary rather it was a priority to have children specially boy child to run the families name,
But nowadays trends have not remained the same now people feel their own name has more importance.
& no i would not have kids only as to run my families name..
