My sister is just nine-teen years old, with a much older friend who considers themselves a couple. She is such a beautiful girl, no kids, has a job, her own place, and I just don't get it? How does things like this happen? Do women really feel that a man can no longer please them? Is this an example of loving one-self? Being that her significant other is a female.

Well being as she's your sister, it's only natural for you to be concerned about her and wanting what's best for her. Nine-teen is still pretty young but it sounds to me like she's heading in the right direction- has her own place and a job. It might be hard to accept that your sister prefers women, but I think you'll have to support her if you want to maintain the relationship with her. Keep in mind that she's only 19, just because she wants to marry this girl doesn't mean that she won't change her mind in the end. People do change, more so when they're young too.

I completely disagree. 19 is an adult. While younger people are tpically more prone to rash or snap judgments, saying that she has no idea what she's doing simply becuase of her age is wrong. I'm 19 and getting married, too. Is my decision to be undermined due to my age as well? Or is my decision okay since my partner is male? This woman sounds very stable and reliable since she is already entirely independant. I would be more worried if she were an irresponsible party-goer, but with the information we've been given, it doesn't seem like she is. So why should her decision be disrespected?

I am in love with a lesbian too... She's nice and kind and I like her more than my ex boyfriend. She's better than him and i'm happier with her. I think if your sister is happy with her lover, leave her alone. That's her life and every decision she makes is up to her. My honey and i have plans of getting married too but it's illegal in our country and our religion... That's our problem now and part of that plan is leaving this country and find a place where we will be both accepted as a couple. I hope you would support your sister and let her just be happy.

I have a question for you. You said that gay marriage is "illegal" in your religion. How can you sustain your belief in a religion that does not accept your love? I'm a lesbian and a former Catholic. I am deeply religious, but could no longer continue with the Catholic faith because of their view of gays. How do you reconcile this?

If that's what she wants, the world around here needs to respect that. It's her life, and no one else's.

Personally I think 19 is to young for anyone to get married but try to explain that to any 19 year old and they will tell you that they know what they are doing. Chances are, she will change her mind quite a few times in the next 10 years and if you arent there for her you may just end up pushing her farther away. While you dont have to accept what she is doing, she is still your sister so just let her know that you still love her and that you are there for her when she needs you.

hi Pattycake,
I know your speaking from abig sisters' point of view with your sisters best interest at heart. However, you don't have to get it as long as your sister is ok with what she's about to do.Even though you don't agree let her know that your there for her. There's many reasons why women go the other way, that straight people may not understand.Like you said "you don't get it".Look at it this way if everyone in the world looked the same or liked the same things it would be a very boring place.

its not a matter of a man no longer being able to please them, it is a matter of men not being able to please them in the first place. people have to do what their hearts tell them, that is why things like this happen. she feels a connection to this woman. a connection she hasnt felt with another person. that happens. male, female, what does it matter as long as she is loved, respected, happy, and treated well?
