Spider Veins or Varicose Veins annoying you?

I just found out about a service that is performed at my local doctor's office called Sclerotherapy. It advertises mainly for spider veins but I've heard it has helped varicose veins as well. I'm having trouble with varicose veins on one of my legs and wear compression stockings daily. I don't understand why most services regarding varicose or spider veins are considered cosmetic dermatology procedures. This makes it extremely difficult for insurance companies to pay when they don't consider it a serious problem. Has anyone had the Sclerotherapy done on varicose veins? What was the outcome? Did your insurance company see it as a cosmetic procedure? Thanks for the input!!

My brother had it done and it didn't work for him so he had to have it done surgically...his were varicose...I am just checking into having one done in my leg...I stand 6-10 hr a day at my job.. and it is really giving me grief...the insurance said I would have to have an ultrasound to verify that it is over a certain percent of blood flow problems before they would consider it medical as opposed to cosmetic!!! I'll let you know..I am trying the sclerotherapy on a spider vein that IS strictly cosmetic!!!
