Started my daughter on solids

My daughter is four months old and insatiable. She eats a 6 oz bottle every 3 hours, yes even at night. So I have been researching on the web and found that when the following conditions have been met I could start her on cereal: 4 months for formula feeding, over 15 lbs and can sit up supported. Which she fits all of, she is over 16 lbs (I wasn't 16 lbs til I was 6 months!). So I bought Heinz cereal and she seemed to catch on pretty well, I only give it to her once a day just to fill her up a little, since she's already in the 90th percentile for weight I'm not going overboard. That was the beginning of the month, I also tried her on a bit of squash and banana so far. She seems to like them but only when they are mixed with the cereal.
I want to try making my own baby food once she starts eating more, have any of you done this for your kids? If so, how did it go?
Also, hoe often should I introduce new foods to her and is there any foods that your babies didn't like at all so I don't go buy a bunch and waste it?
Thanks

I used to make my own baby food for my daughter.I would boil vegetables, rice and whatever leafy greens I found, mash it with a pinch of salt and feed to her.My daughter never liked store bought cereal anyway. She preferred home made baby food so that is what I did.we are vegetarians so I did not introduce her to egg until she was a year old.If your daughter eats well, then you should feed her well because until 2 yrs of age, children do need a whole lot of nutrients to grow well.Just keep all the fats and extra sugar to a limit since she is already in her 90th percentile.you really cannot define exactly what your baby will like. For each one has her/his own tastes. You have to try with every thing and observe which one she likes and which one she does not.

I found making my won pureed food quite easy.Just steam the veggies in the mircowave or a stove top steamer(I used the latter),then using a food processor or food mill mash it tp a puree.Takes bit of effort in that you have to clean the food processor or mill but worth it.all natural food so much batter than additive-filled baby food jars.
