How do you add pictures to your posts?

I see tiny pictures attached to posts all the time, and I can't for anything figure out how to do it. I thought it was something you could only do once you'd reached the 500-post mark, but lately I've seen lots of posts with pictures from people with less than 500 posts. So, what am I missing? Can someone please tell me how to add pics to my discussions?
