MyLot at work

Hi all! It just dawned on me that I have spent the majority of the day at my "real" job surfing around on MyLot. I got irritated when my boss called and said he was back from vacation because that cuts into my time here! I've also been getting frustrated when the phone rings and I have to minimize Mylot to help them. So after tomorrow I'll have to actually work instead of hang out here. I shouldn't be peeved about it but I am. I'm sure some of it is nicotine withdrawals. Do any of you get on MyLot when you're supposed to be "working"? Does it irritate you when you get interrupted?

I think you have to ask yourself who pays your salary and what it is for. You are helping yourself to your employer's time to surf on Mylot or the Internet as a whole. It is the same as if someone came to your home and saw for example a huge pile of dvd's or computer games or apples for that matter and that person would come each day and help themselves to your stuff. You would get upset for sure. I would suggest you have a bit of fun on Mylot during your lunch hour if you can eat at your desk. Some companies also monitor internet use by employees, I know some people who have lost their job over surfing and thought they were treated unfairly.

Linda, my boss is hardly here, and when he is he's surfing the internet. I can honestly say that every insurance policy that has been written in this office since February 28 has been written by me. Our customer service scores are up and our retention is the best in the district, and it's not any thanks to him. So for what I make an hour and the service I provide him I feel like I should be able to get online and do my own thing a few hours a week at work.

Wow, it looks like you are running the office. I hope your boss will consider a raise for you. It seems you are doing all the work and keeping the place going.

You are really asking us to expose our habits and what if the boss comes in while I am typing this response! LOL Right now I am on spring break so I am safe. However, when on the job the job does take priority. So it doesn't bother me to stop doing mylot when I have to work. My job does pay more than mylot. LOL

That's true, my job pays more than MyLot also. And my job also takes priority, but sometimes when it's just common sense things they can figure out on their own I get so frustrated! LOL Especially if I am typing a good response! LOL

well im here in the office everytime i checked my lot.Im fond of posting and starting discussions but i dont make it to a point where in my job will be affected.Ofcourse this company pays me well so its just right to prioritize my job first. If i have vacant time and everthing is done here thats the time i read and respond to discussions.

My job is actually to be a mother and full time student, but I often do find myself at mylot when I am supposed to be "working." Right now I am working on an annotated bibliography for the corn laws, and it seems that I always end up here in the course of my research.

I work at home so I'm only cheating myself her. I don't make as much on mylot but it is a nice breather however I do tend to spend more time here than I should and then my real work gets piled out. Hope your boss doesn't realize what you have been doing. Must be nice to make money while making money on the clock.

Considering I am a stay home mom I do get upset when I also have to answer the phone or when my are doing things they know they shouldent be doing and I have to stop and take care if it. That is ont thing I like about being at home tho I dont have to worry about my boss finding out that I am doing something other than my job.

I use to work alot on myLot during working hours, and I had a 10 stars now it went down to 8 and it's going to keep on going down. Now I barely post here, because my boss made a strict policy that if we get caught using the internet for no working purposes, he will fire us. Now I can't really post much or at all like I use to. It's really unfortunate, but that their law I guess.

I sometimes am on MyLot when I should be finishing up an article. Or there are times that I'll need to give up the computer for my husband or one of the kids. I'm trying to save up for a laptop but maybe that's not such a good thing; I might end up being on MyLot all the time, lol.

That's funny.
i do the same thing, but i don't usually get irritated about getting interrupted.
i am on here quite a bit b/c my job is boring...nothing against mylot, but i'd rather have a busy job and not be on here, then be bored and be on here.
this just keeps me sane throughout the day.

I can understand how do you feel. I am at work now, and although I do not have a boss that I afraid that he can catch me, I feel interrupted every time that someone knock the door.
I am really addictive to it, not because I want to earn money but because I like to read the discussions and be part of it. It is a really succesfull community here...

I have been guilty of going onto myLot at work on a few occasions but usually do not stay online too long since I do get interrupted a lot. It is normal for me since I work with students and sometimes they need my help with their work. I usually go on before they arrive or after they leave for the day. It does not bother me to get interrupted since helping them is more important and I can go online when I get home.

In my case I do got the habit of getting to mylot sneaking from time to time while at work. But I don't get peeved or irrtated when I am interrupted since I still earn bigger in my real life job than in here. So it's perfectly okay for me to be interrupted besides I am borrowing their internet time for it LOL!.

There was a time when majority of my time was spent on my lot. I spent most of the time reading the discussions. I was not really that participative.
Then, it dawned to me that what I was doing was just wrong. I am being paid decently by my employer and in return, I do nothing. My conscience could not just take it.
Just to be fair, I allocate an amount of time to scan around mylot and comment on discussions (like this for instance). But not spend the whole 8 hours on it. It just isn't fair.

Shame on you for looking at myLot during company time. Actually I think we've all been guilty of going to sites like myLot, MySpace, YouTube and others when we should be working. It's all a part of this computer age that we live in!!!

I used to be on mylot when am suppose to take calls, and its really annoying when I hear the way too familiar toot sound and I have to minimize mylot and say my opening spiel..heheh sometimes I do have the tendency of rushing the call so that I can just go back to mylot. But I stopped the habbit coz its termination if we get caught surfing the web during working hours...so I just get on mylot at home, like now.
