How to Control Claustrophobia?

Until a few years ago I was never claustrophobic. Then I was in a horrible car accident and was trapped in my car for 45 minutes because of it. Ever since then I've been claustrophobic. I get claustrophobic when there are too many people around me, or if I feel someone is too close. I also get claustrophobic driving on the express way during rush hour. Does anyone else have claustrophobia, and if you do, have you fould a way to control it, or make it better? I've tried doing deep breathing exercises, and that helps in the car, but not so much in crowds. Suggestions anyone?

There is medication you can take for it. So if you know you are going to be in a crowd then I would talk to a doctor about getting medication for it. I think you probably tense all up. Panic attacks I think are the same. It is a horrible feeling and I hope you can get it under control. It can really mess your life up and make you feel hopeless. Deep breathing helps in the car but out in public I guess you would have to work your way through it by talking yourself out of it. Good Luck with it.
