I currently own a very old graphics card named Nvidia geforce fx5200 128 mb. As now a days gameing graphics are becoming better and better the graphics card and ram requirement are increasing more rapidly. So you sant continue a latest graphics card for more than 6 months. So you have to be very rich to paly latest games. Every month new technology invents a new graphics card. So gaming is not for average pc users.

I got nVidia 8600 GT 256mb video ram. It's a nice card worth it's money. You can pretty much play all the games on the market today with either high graphics or low. Good card recommend it!!
If you got some extra cash I would say you should go for the *SILENT* version with 512 mb video ram.

You should prefer GTX 280 if you have a High Budget and you a free PCI Express Slot x16(2.0) on your motherboard but if you have a low budget or do not have a PCI Express Slot x16(2.0), then I say you shoud prefer around 8800 GS or 8600 GT.
