This is the question, which is there in every Indian mind as well as for those Indian living in any part of the world and having Interest in the Cricket.
On paper the Statistics and Records seems as a big favour to the Indian Team but what is the ground reality???

here is a add on to the above response :
Cricket is a game of uncertainity . It
is difficult to predict who will be the
winner .
Previous performance has nothing to do
with the present/future position . It
all depends on the actual situation in
the field .

True and agreed that cricket is a game of uncertainity then why the Australian were unconquerable for so long??
Why a kid can also predict the result of match between Australia with any other country(if we leave the lean patch of last 6 matches in which Aussies were not in their full stregth).
Performance doesn't come oevernight and cannot be build in a day. So it is not a matter of the lucky day on which the team can perform better.
It is the consistent effort with mental stregth and approach towards the game.

The Indian team is now facing an uphill task and it will take the cumulative prayers of all cricket fans for India to make it to the final eight. What has happened in the West Indies against Bangladesh is nothing short of a callous attitude. However it has served as a wake up call, the outcome of which was visible in the thumping win against Bermuda.
But the irony of the matter is that in the match against bermuda both yuvraj n tendulkar went hammer and tongs only after the weatherman forcasted the possibility of a truncated match. Also the bowlers were eager for wickets uptil the 20th over, after that it seemed that they had resolved to the fact that even if bermuda batted out the 50 overs they were in a strong position.
As I see it what is lacking is the killer instinct in the Indian eleven. But, from the bermuda match one can see the tremendous potential our players have which can come into play if the players want to.
What deters them from it is what I also would like to know!
