I thank you for sharing this information with me. I'm sorry it didn't work for your neice. I would think support hose would be very hot and uncomfortable in the summer. It gets so hot here. But my veins so get large and swollen and they do hurt. Your information does help, thank you.

I have heard in recent years that their is a surgery available and depending on how bad they are it's sometimes covered under your private insurance. I know that I have heard of health risks associated with varicose veins so you might want to talk to your doctor about what those are. Hope that helps! :)

I wonder what type of doctor to check with for vericose surgery? I would think maybe a plastic surgeon, gee I wonder why they call them plastic? I would hope it would be covered by my insurance, I mean the veins stand out so bad and they do hurt, I worry about a blood clot too. Thanks for sharing with me :)

One of the new things they are doing for varicose veins is a topical application of vitamin K in a cream, ask your pharmacist. My second " guess" is to increase your vitamin C intake, as vitamin C strengthens the blood vessels and capillaries. Wear support hose part of each day, try to not stand on concrete, elevate your legs when resting. Some herbalists recommend hrse chestnut, again, I would research it first. Vermont folk medicine recommends applying apple cider vinegar daily two times, externally, and drinking two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water morning and evening. Should see results in a month. Put honey in the vinegar,to drink, and make sure it is not just "apple cider flavored" vinegar, but is the real deal. The bvinegar honey drink is effective for a lot of things. I think it balances your minerals.

Thank you so much for the information you sent. My mom is all about vinegar treatments. She told me to put vinegar on them, she puts it on everything, she drinks it too. We tease her all the time and say she is pickled and will be around forever :) She even chases the grandkids with her bottle of vinegar when they come in the house chewed up with mosquito bites, you should see them run, the kids not the bugs :)

Wow, this really gives me hope!! Thanks!! I used to work on my feet, I managed a store for over 8 years, and that was everyday all day long on my feet with no breaks at all, the floor was cement, my legs and feet used to swell and hurt so bad. Thank you for sharing this with me, I am all for any procedure that is painless!!

I am 25 and have always had them on the backs of my legs, right behind my knees. I hate them but don't think there is anything to get rid of them, besides the doctor thing-they do it with a laser. I just wear capris when I go out in the Summer time and shorts only at home =)

I was really young and had a few to come up and my then mother in law made the comment that she bet when I got older I'd have a problem with them. Even capri won't hide mine. My ankles have them so bad it looks like bruises and they are dark and stand out. I am so self conscious of them. Thank you for sharing with me, I hope yours don't continue to get worse.

Why don't you check out with your doctor. Nowadays laser surgery has become so simple and painless.

I am so filled with hope now that I may have some alternatives to treat them. Thanks for sharing with me as well. My husband's step father has the worse veins I've ever seen and I do not want mine to get to that point.

I think there are medical procedures like lazer that can help. I think you would have to pay out of pocket as it is a cosmetic procedure.

Thanks for posting this question applsofgld. I too have bad vericous veins especially on my left leg and sometimes they are a little painful. It definitely runs in our family from my dads side. Reading all the replies has given me ways to see how I can get rid of them. Thanks so much. Happy Easter!

i'm not sure what treatments they have now,
but about 20 years ago,my grandmother used to get treated by a type of saline injection.
they shoot it into the vein, and it causes it to collapse.
she had much clearer legs after it was done.
i'm sure it's for the littler veins,but it'd be a help,anyway.
