Hollywood actors are famous for controversies and fanfare which surround them off screen besides their acting skills. It was more than evident while Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in India to shoot for "A Mighty Heart", a film based on the murder of Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl.
The celebrity couple stayed in India for over a month during which Jolie, who essays the role Pearl's wife in the movie produced by her hubby Pitt, completed her scenes in Pune and Mumbai. What created chaos was the behaviour of Brangelina's bodyguards with children in a school where shooting took place. Plus, traffic was thrown at sixes and sevens due to the shooting of the film in the two cities.
Our own filmmakers are always cautious about not disturbing their fellow citizens while they shoot their films. Hollywood stars move in a convoy which causes big traffic trouble for common man. They receive money, fame and what not for their films while people remain at the receiving end.
There have been instances when people objected to the shooting of certain movies. For example, Deepa Mehta's 'Water' invited protestors’ wrath a few years ago when cast and crew was in Varanasi to shoot the film. Same happened recently when there was commotion over the shooting of a film in the ancient city starring Rani Mukherjee and some other big stars of Mumbai film industry. In both the cases, the protest could be justified as local feared that their city might be depicted in bad light as filmmakers of both the films refused to divulge the plots of their movies for commercial reasons.
Now when everything has calmed down, it is time for filmmakers to ensure that no such chaos prevails in their future projects.
