I don't think there will be another director quite like Alfred Hitchcock. His horror films are classics, and he was instrumental in making this genre popular with audiences.

Of the two, I'd choose Stephen King. Buuut for horror, I also lean towards George A. Romero (his latest movie doesn't count...)

I don't have a favorite horror director as I cannot stand anything horror. I don't like to watch horror films, or read horror books. I find they give me nighmares.

Seems like Wes Craven's fav directors are non-US ones, since they come cheap..read more here: http://www.terrortube.com/html/Wes-Craven-On-Foreign-Directors.html

That's a tough question for me to answer because I admire so many of them. While I enjoy a goodly number of movies associated with Stephen King's stories, he only directed one film himself, Maximum Overdrive, back in 1986. Wes Craven has done quite a bit, some good, some bad. I'm going to vote for John Carpenter, actually, for the job that he did with the original Halloween, The Thing, Christine and, oh, so many others.

I really enjoy Coffin Joe as my favorite horror director as he did not believe in special effects or "babying" his stars.(exampole....when the star was to be put in the snake pit,the put was actually filled with live snakes and she had to do it herself). He brings a little realism back
