This is wholehearted question from my six year old little girl in my neighbour. She asked "if God made everyone and everything, then who made God?" . I couldn’t react immediately except staring at her curiousity and say hmmmm. But later while on bed I kept pondering over this little girl’s question if its only creation of human mind. How would answer this?

well thats a little tough one..Children can ask questions that catch us off guard can't they??? I suppose I would just tell her that no one had to make God because he was here from the beginning, and he appeared like magic, and he was all alone so he made people so he would not be all by himself...Children can relate to magic because they have a little imaginary mind..I have often ask the same question but i really don't know but thats what i told my kids and they accepted it...

That's a great question that even adults ask :) If I may suggest...go to http://www.bridgefm.org - look for "Pastor's Perspective". Every night at 6pm EST there is a call in radio show that two pastors host and they take calls (even from children :)) about such questions. Maybe it would be fun and interesting to call in the show and ask. It is a great radio station and program that you can even listen to from your computer. God bless!

I grew up believing that there is a God, totalearnings. I never questioned about the true existence of God. But your question is certainly a tricky one. I'm as dumbfounded as you. I can say God is just there. LOL...maybe He is just someone sitting on the cloud. :)

I will tell her a story.
God came out from nowhere, was alone and lonely, and while playing with the mud and sand, he created a figurine. Then he created another to keep him company. To prvoide them with a home, he created a house with a big garden.
Somehow, thunder and lightning strike. The figurines start to move, and walk and then run and grow up immediately. They start procreating. One after another, one after another, little children start to play in the garden. It was a happy sight. The world was soon created and alive. That's what I will tell the little one.

Personally, I think it's OK to admit that you don't know. Obviously you are a theist so I can't recommend this for you, but if I were in this situation I would explain that I do not believe that god exists at all, and I might be wrong. Asserting theories as facts such as the non-existence or existence of god is detrimental to encouraging a creative and curious mind, in my humble opinion. It's OK to admit ignorance, we do not have to know everything, even in our children's eyes.

God always was, and always will be. We can not understand this mystery of the infinite by our finite minds. We can only understand everything having a beginning, so we have to accept it on faith for now - and perhaps if we are fortunate in our ends we will one day understand.

That is a very good question. So now you understand why I cannot fully believe in God, much as I like. And why I am more of a nihilist than anything else. :P

If the question was asked of me, I would say I don't know. I prefer to admit ignorance than to prove it beyond all doubt by trying to answer what I can't. And by doing so you can show that ignorance on some issues is not necessarly something of which you should be ashamed. It is better to admit ignorance than to try and cover it up will weak information that can eventually be pulled out from under like a rug. I would also encourage her continued curiousity it is healthy.
