I run a cashflow and budget on excel. That allows me to see exactly where I am, what I can afford or not afford and when bills are due to be paid. So there are no surprise bills arriving which can't be paid. Oh, and I only use the credit card sparingly and only when the cash flow shows that there will be enough funds available to clear the debit when it comes due.

We pay all of our bills online. My husband keeps the system finally tuned by listing them all in a notebook with the dates, so at a glance, he knows what is coming up to be paid. Then, he simply goes online and sets up the payment date and it is done. With the stamp going up, this helps save a little money too !!

Before applying for something what I think is whether is this a necessity for me and whether I could afford it. So far I have not come across any problem with the way I have been thinking.
