With the busy commute to and from home somedays, also living in the out skirts of Washington DC. I carpool with someone every now and then. We alternate weeks, therefore saving on gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, also get to relax on the weeks you don't have to drive. Here we have what they call HOV Lanes(High Occupancy Vehicle)HOV-2 or HOV-3, where the number of people have to be in the vehicle to travel these lanes, all motorcycles, and Hybrid cars purchased prior to July 2006 can use these lanes. It saves so much time. However, the big debate now is for instance, someone has his/her infant or toddler in the car and they uses the HOV lanes. Some people feel that the passenger(s) should be of age and not a infants or toddlers. What do you think? Also, we have what they call Slug Lines-People look for other drivers who need to ride to where they are going so they are able to get on the HOV lanes. We have alot of commuter lots around my area. Here is the website to give you a idea of a slug line http://www.slug-lines.com/ Do you carpool or have a method of getting back and forth to work other than public transportion? Do you have HOV lanes in your area or Slug Lines (even someting similar)

I live in a small town- so no we don't have anything like that- just expressways.. I would love to carpool-- with the price of gas skyrocketing every week. I don't though- I drive 20 minutes one way-- I love my freedom-- If my daughter calls from school with an emergency I can just go- without worrying how I will get back to town or worrying about a rider finding a way home. Then again I'd love to for the gas reason again!

Just went through the website you posted. That sounds awesome! Sluglines started by the localites and that too for free!Wow, would love to travel in something similar.Don;t know how it could travel faster than metro or train though,as the website suggests. We don't have anything similar to this.Yes, car pooling is available and catching up steadily. It's been here for around a yar officially and more than 5-6 years unofficially ,that is without using the term 'carpools'.It would be great to start something similar to the slugliners.I am sure it is a great help to everyone.

Actually with the slugline it's faster because you on HOV, here it's I-95 HOV-3, have to have 3 people to travel those 2 lanes, not alot of people have 3 people in their car. so the regular lanes are packed, however with the metro, I guess their looking at all the stops they have to make before reaching DC. But, ALOT of people use sluglines daily..
