The story has changed...

In previous discussions on writing the question has been asked if anyone has been published. I am pleased to say (actually thrilled to death!) that my first short story has been published in a local magazine that is produced by our local newspaper. It is because of our writers' group that the magazine agreed to start printing short stories in their publication.
I wrote a letter today to a magazine with a short story submission. I wrote in my letter that I was expecting to be published this spring. I can now amend the letter and say I HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED!
Sorry to say the magazine does not have a website for me to share my story with you, but I just had to share my news.
Keep happy!

I know this response isn't going to win me any points since it's not going to be all deep and super effective, but I just had to leave a reply.
Congratualtions!
That's it. Nothing major or huge coming from me. You are now one of the people that the rest of us envy... A published author! Congrats and hope the good fortune keeps smiling on you and your art!

That's great news because a publishing career is built around many small steps rather than one huge leap (for most people). Even "newly discovered first time authors" are usually veteran writers who have published in smaller markets first before hitting the big time. It's such an uphill road for most writers, and then they end up on the remainder table. Think of it, the odds are very long that a person can become a best selling writer. This is not to discourage you; many folks have successful writing careers without ever making the New York Times bestseller list. You just have to know what you are in for. Congratulations again!

Thanks! Yes, I am hoping this will up my odds of getting published in other magazines. When I first started writing, short stories were the last thing I could do. I am a storyteller and I tell long stories. LOL! I also like to write poetry. Because we do 10 minute writing prompts in our writing group, I am kind of writing a short story each time. Some of them I have picked up and continued on with to make real short story length. I also attended a workshop on short story writing and it has helped me immensely. It's taking me forever to get my novel written so for now I have to rely on some short stories to get my name out there and hopefully bring in some cash.

It's nice to hear that someone succeded with writing and being published, some very famous authors started out with short stories, then graduated on to full novels later, so go with it, and we will all expect you to be famous later, however don't forget the MyLot Members who are giving you encouragement.

CONGRATULATIONS PAT! I'm so happy to hear that you have found a place that will publish things for you. Hope it will work out for you.
I'm still waiting for that opportunity...unless you want to call places on the internet who publish things for readers, but don't pay anything. Oh well, we have to start somewhere I suppose.

Congratulations! You should savour the feeling as long as possible as there is nothing like being published for the first time. It is the first step, but its a very significant step so I would not think about it as a small achievment, rather as something to be proud of and something which reflects all the work you've put into your writing to date.

Great to hear another writer has been published, congratulations.
I had one short story published about three years ago, but haven't submitted anything since. I have been working on a novel, which is just finished, now I face the ardous task of getting it published.
Keep at it, and good luck for your future writings.
