Why are there hard times, when our country is supposed to be the richest country

How is that we have all this money, and have familes and individuals struggling, and scrapping trying to make it? I'm not saying give handouts because alot of people can help themselves. But we will support a 2 million dollar project on a plane, or to fight other countries, but there's no money for poverty, the poor, the sick, these kids' education and support for our communities. Research for cures on dieases. What is the problem?

My opinion and my opinion only is that the reason this is happening is because of the poor management in our government and the greedy of the rich...They just keep wanting more and more so they can pay the high prices so our government just keeps raising everything. That is why it is said the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer and i believe this I see this in everyday life..Our taxes get raises, our insurance gets raise and the cost of living doesn't go up and neither does the minimum wage so were stuck makeing 6.50 an hour which is enough for what 2 gallons of gas now for one hour of work, it is pathetic and I am right with you, stop helping others and look at our country and fix it before you try to fix others, put our homeless in these houses that have been foreclosed and sitting empty. etc. oh man I could go on and on...lol

Thanks for your response, and you are so right. But instead of housing the homeless they'll leave a house on the market for sale for about 5 years and will keep reducing the price just to get it sold. Everybody is making money and the interest in our country is that of a small problem in the eyes of the upper-class man.
