Most of the time last minute flights are a lot cheaper....because the airline will try to get a full flight.Sites like cheaptickets.com and hotwire will find you the lowest prices for any time you want and you can check to see when it would be cheapest without a lot of effort.
Flying during the offseason is always cheaper and you can auqire that information from any Travelagency.
You may also want to contact the airlines directly and see what they have available.
That's about all I got for you.....good luck!!!

I don't know if you have tried this, but priceline.com sometimes can beat most other discount travel sites. My brother in law bought a ticket from Georgia to Germany for his wife at a rock bottom price. Anywhere else it was $1200 but he put in a bid for $500 and he got it! The only problem with this is that you have to go by their guidelines, and fly only what they have available. So, give that a shot, maybe you will get lucky and the offers they have will meet the criteria for your trip!

My local news channel did this money saving bit for one of their newscasts. They said the cheapest time to buy an airplane tickest is at 2am on Wednesday morning. And just to clarify since 'morning' is often thought of at night, I mean 2 hours after after Tuesday is over. Some people interpret 'morning' differently. My dad tried this because he needed tickets to Chicago for a conference, and he noticed he saved about $150 dollars. And this is generally what all airlines do, is slash their prices at that particular time.
Also, you might want to check out www.sidestep.com, or www.cheaptickets.com. Hope you have a good trip!

i have always found that going directly through the airline you wish to fly is the cheapest. All those cheaptickets.com sites and ones like it jack up the prices a bit because they get a commission.

Yes, try orbitz.com, priceline.com, expedia.com, cheaptickets.com (the website that has already been listed). Well, the good thing is that priceline.com you can name your price that you are wanting to pay. The bad thing is that they choose the times when you do that. You get to pick the dates but not the times. So you could have some crazy flights, but I know my brother does that because it is much cheaper. If you don't mind that and your relatives are pretty flexible, then just go on priceline.com and bid for your tickets. I would suggest doing it many months ahead of time. The sooner you do it the cheaper it will be.
You could also take the Greyhound bus if you are into that. You may also consider driving a rent-a-car. Those are other options that may not be as much as plane tickets. Have a nice day.
