I am working in retail, that is why i know how important customer service is. If a customer can feel that you treat him.her as an important customer, most probably, they will come back.
Have you ever being served by someone goodly or badly in a shop???
WHat happened??how does the attitude of the shop assistant affect the image of the shop ? Will you come back if being served well or never come back if being served badly?

I have noticed customer service here in the UK is almost non-existent. Try returning something because it doesn't fit or if it is flawed, is a nightmare. The customer is never right here. I always get an attitude when dealing with customer service.
I took back some prints that I had developed. I didn't like the way they turned out. They all came out pink. They also didn't give me the right size prints. They told me the film was old. It wasn't, the date was printed on the film. I told them the size was also wrong. They said it wasn't. I showed them the envelope and it listed the size of the prints that I wanted. It was right there in black and white. She told me she didn't see it. I said, "well, you are the one that wrote it." No comment. I requested that they re-run the film, which they can do. She said once it was done, they couldn't do anything about it. I told her she was wrong. She walked off. I got her supervisor involved. She took one look at the prints and said "oh dear". I asked for them to re-run the film. I also wanted the correct size of the prints, as ordered. A long story short, something that should have taken 2 minutes took well over 30 minutes to get straightened out. I received 2 free rolls of film and I got my money back on the original order. I didn't have to pay anything. I told the super that I wouldn't deal with that inexperienced person again. I also told her that I don't trust them to handle film developing. Will I use them again? No.
If I am served badly, I will never return. I will also tell friends what happened. If they treat me right, service with a smile and all that, then I will gladly return.

yep...customer service is very much important. Customers pay the money and they must expect the good service. In case if someone acted badly with customers then its thats very bad. Might lead to loose the customer itself...

no.if somebody's really rude to me,they don't need my business that badly.it definetly affects the shop.
i've worked in the service industry and i have never been rude to people-it usually gets you fired.
if they are cool,i remember that, and recommend them to friends.

I hate bad service. I've had several experiences with attitude problem from customer service people. In a restaurant in HK, one waitress kinda pushed a trolley and hit my chair but instead of apologizing, she said "I told you to move! Can't you hear me?!" in Cantonese of course. I was appalled and shocked.
I especially hate hotel staff in Malaysia. They can't seem to grasp the idea of "Serve with a Smile". They're constantly curt and do not make it a point to make your stay comfortable. Unless you're a foreigner of course..then they're nice to you.

I've spent many years in customer service in banking and real estate. If you treat a person as a human being then you can't go wrong! It's not hard and customers appreciate it and will remember you for being normal.
I think it's an art these days to be in customer service and not sound like a trained robot. Also because time is going by more quickly (so it seems) people don't want to be chatting with register operators and want quick efficient service in supermarkets. Retail service personnel learn quickly to discern peoples' moods and treat customers accordingly. But it's always in your own interests to treat people the way you would like to be treated, it always works.

It's nice to go into shops where the attendants or shop assistants always has a smile on their face and has a friendly attitude. A smile goes a long way thats for sure. I like it when they greet you and say something like, Hi there, how are you or hows your day going? or something along those lines..even if they come up to you after a couple of minutes being in the store, and asking if you need assistance. A lot of the larger departments stores don't do that, and often I find myself having to walk around to find someone to ask them a question or for assistance.
I think first impressions are important and if your staff isn't giving good customer service in their presentation and how they deal with people, then of course the impression of the store will not be good. However, that would not stop me from not going there. I would however make a complaint or let their supervisor know that their attitude and behavior was not good when serving me.

I used to be in the the service industry. I have been a waitress, hostess, retail customer service. I have had good and bad experiences from both sides of the coin. While I have been treated badly I still visit the store in hopes that there are better cashiers or customer service employees. I am always right on that. I have had bad experiences that have left a bad taste in my mouth for a business, and then on another day I will return to that place and be completely refreshed by their outstanding customer service. Personally, some people are unsuited for this profession. Some make your day! It is important to make the customer feel welcome and important, so they will return again. I do know that some people just have a bad day and I try to put a smile on their face before I leave. I feel it is my duty as a human being to at least put a smile on someones face when I interact with them!

Sometimes what turns me off a store is poor customer service assistance. Thank goodness it doesn't happen often because CSA's are now being trained to give good service. They have learned how to be courteous and gracious when confronted by an irate customer.

Well for me the most important thing of business is the product, for me service the second thing in my mind. So if i go to food stand and they take so long to deliver my order and not nicec to me, it's quite ok for me as long the quality of the food is excellent. But i think most of the people over here is quite nice.
one time i went to a food stall to eat fried rice, the taste is good, big portion and quite cheap also. But few months later i ate again there like always, but strange that day i ate the same meal with the same price, but only half of the last portion. HAH......
I never eat there again until now

I experienced that incident. One day i want to buy a flash drive so i search a lot in many stores. Strangely the price was nearly the same with the same quality.
Than after 2 hours i decided to buy from a store that the clerk is not friendly. The reason was because it was the cheapest price and i didn't have to worry about forgetting the lid
Well that's my story

I wish you were working out here at the city Wal Mart where we shop. I can tell you'd do a great job at your work. I have had some of the worse customer service ever at Wal Mart. To say I would never go back would be pretty harsh words and I know the prices are good there and I also know that Wal Mart is a good enough place to shop, however they sure could do with better employees. I know it's not just me I've heard lots complaining.

That's what happens when employees are treated like crap by their employer. Companies think that the customer is A-#1, but they often forget that the person who has to deal with the customer is also important. If you can't treat the employee well, why expect them to treat the customer well?

hi,
i used to be a customer service and i never ever mistreated my customers. in fact, i am always trying to make friends with each of them. not only because they bring business to our company but also because i find fulfillment when they keep on coming back to us. when they are already my friends, that serves as my reward. :)

well it all depends. If it is a product that you can do without or other shops has it then bad excuse is not acceptable. How ever that shop is selling only niche or uique such as food ... then it is another story.... Price is another consideration factor

Good for you, nice to know a person like you makes a customer feel well on the services. If i'm a customer, of course i want to be treated and served nicely by the customer representative, it is a warm feeling and balance of atmosphere you make a customer feels he's/she's important. Rather than, if you make your services bad, i customer myself, will never returned to the store nor shop.

I think customer service is very important in today's world. When I am a customer and a shop assistant treats me either with indifference or lack of respect, i will definetely never go back to that shop. Being in the service industry myself, i understand how clients like to be treated and realised a lil politeness even if they are in the wrong keeps them coming back and giving us more business. So good customer service is a guarantee that the customer will be back

I have to say that it doesn't happen a lot but on the few occasions that it has happened I would get very annoyed and either ask to speak to a manager or just walk out of the shop and never return. I once walked out of a supermarket and left my trolley full of shopping at the checkout because the cashier decided to carry on a conversation with the cashier next to her. I made sure to put on the shopping on the conveyer belt first so that she would have to remove them all again. It just makes me very mad when I come across rude shop assistants, but like I said, the majority are really nice and very hard workers.

customers want to feel valued so this is why good customer service is essential in keeping up a good business. you establish goodwill this way. even if you provide the best goods or services, if the customer service in your shop is not at all that great, customers will most likely look for another shop that could make them feel more valued or important.

I have been treated both well and poorly in a shop.
When I've been treated well, I have made a point of telling the person serving me that they are very good at their job and quite often I have actually put it in writing and sent a letter to the manager, a phone call would not be the same as it would not be on record. Good customer service deserves praise and some companies do "employee of the month" schemes where the employee gets an award and often an extra monetary bonus. Getting good feedback helps towards this sort of thing and also helps towards that person's promotion prospects later on.
When I receive poor customer service I used to just tell people verbally. Nowadays (in the last 2 or 3 years), I have written consumer reviews and told others about it on the internet. They say if you do it well people will tell others, if you do it badly people will tell many others, which is what I do. I tend to write consumer reviews on bad and good service I've received :) If I've received poor service I also make a point of not going there again and shopping elsewhere, it's my money and if it's not worth being treated fairly when I am a polite and considerate shopper, I will spend my money elsewhere :)

Yeah I had a lot of experiences of a rude customer service staff. One experience is I called the store one day asking if I can get my player that was repaired by them but instead of saying sorry and telling me that it's not yet done they answ answer me in a rude manner. And recently I was inquiring about computer parts ....i don't like what they answer so I just went to another branch and bought a a brand new CPU. So everytime I encounter such bad sales staff I don't mind going back to that shop anymore.
